But they didn't dither. Real did. Utd had a price and have said all summer that unless that price was met they'd keep De Gea and let him move on a free next year. I fail to see how they now have a mess to clean up.
How about Real who have a keeper who now knows that he's not wanted and will be out the door by the end of the season.

As soon as they decided not to play him that first league game they should have been hammering out a deal with Madrid - who have seemed more than happy to wait until next summer and pick him up on a free.

Obviously they weren't to know that the deal would collapse at literally the last minute but both clubs look an absolute shambles in all of this. Hopefully they'll be able to get de Gea to play.

    this is fúcking epic.

i do feel for de Gea a little in this though (setting aside his multi-million pound fortune for a second).

he wants to go back to Madrid because it's his home, and also because LVG has quite obviously frozen him out.

all he needs is for Madrid to stump up the money, but they play Billy Big Bollocks.

it goes to the last minute, someone or some people, outside of his control, fúck it all up, and now he's stuck in a country he doesn't really want to be in, working for a manager he doesn't really want to work for.

he can wipe his tears away with his cash, but it's still a bit shít.

Van Gaal said many times De Gea will play once the window shuts and it looks more likely that he will play against Liverpool.

Why feel for De Gea? Just spend 10 more months in the country he has already spent 4 years and he can pocket **** loads of money with signing on fee.

You could say exactly the same about united.

At least Real willing be saving a load of money whereas united will be losing a load.

He looked poor in the champions league play off but by all accounts he's a very good defender. Another "shrewd" signing for the saints?

"Frozen out" is such a tabloid term Slick, you used to be better than that. :(

White isn't even on duty yet. That voice could slice granite so I'll be watching with the sound down by that point.

But Utd were always willing to take the hit and play him for the rest of the season. LVG already said that he had a future at the club after September 1st. The money isn't really an issue here, it was about Utd telling Real that they won't be walked on.

I think he ll be found out.

Been cries for him to play in the Dutch team for ages as well but you are just not very good when you play in Holland for Groningen and Ajax, Feyenoord and/or PSV never showed interest in you.

At the other hand, Yoshida who never came further than VVV also plays premiere league.

Frozen out, or you know not playing a goalkeeper who wants to leave which could affect his performances

Van Gaal had said he would play when the transfer stuff was sorted out and his head was back in it afaik

So now the club get no money for a keeper who doesn't want to play for them. Not a great move to be honest. I would think he'll be gone in January.

Any word on Mane to United?

He won't be. He might sign a pre contract in January, but he'll be first choice keeper for the rest of the season.

My take on it is Martial was higher up the list than Mane and when Monaco got knocked out of Europe the chance came to sign him

To where? He'll be CL Cup tied. So if he goes to Real and starts playing league games, that will piss off whatever other keeper has been playing games up until then.

Amazing strategy, almost as good as not sending documents.

But he'll be unhappy and he also may well not give a **** whether you win the league or not. He may be a great professional who will do his best in every game, of course.

I'd suggest that the fact that the club felt unable to play him so far this season would mean there are serious question marks as to whether he'll be the same player now that he was last season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,059 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

The bad news for de Gea is that he hasn't played, if he is thrown back in and has a howler that costs points he'll be under enormous pressure while not even wanting to be there. Van Gaal likewise of course. Obviously one might wish both parties to be professional but even the best paid are frequently short of character.

    Madrid the trolling experts.

I'd say Utd won't be in a rush to do business with them again!

Robbed them with Di Maria, and then Ramos flirting all summer. Then this.

    Gangsters!

delighted to see clubs like West Brom holding firm. Same with Southampton and Wanyama. Good on them.

the extra money has meant at least some power has swayed back to the clubs in these sorts of scenarios.
