Looking to pick up a pair of 'good weather' wheels and was pointed towards a particular cellar on eBay. I'm just looking to see how, or indeed if, I can calculate and import fees I may have to pay, or is it just a case of pot luck with customs as to what's charged and what's not?

    Pot Luck.
Pick a number somewhere between the price of your wheels + 50% and €0.

Well they usually ask for a paypal reciept. So it depends on what your paypal reciept shows.
As far as I know they are pulling everything up now.
For my frame they asked for a PP reciept.
I sent them a screen shot.
They never even opened the box.

i would expect wheels made from china would be very weak and brittle.

Not to turn this into a pro v con thread I've done over 6000km on a set and never had any issues but like everything from China you roll the dice and take your chances. All you can do is make an educated guess.

As for import duty/taxes it's hit and miss I got one set through and another was stopped supplier emailed me an invoice for a number €150 I think and I paid the duty as above box never opened.

    hi iwillhtfu

when you bought the bike/wheels from china , did you supply the tariff classification number or what, to state the duty owed on it . do they state whats in the bo and put on tariff number? you bought stuff through paypal , and they sent you the stuff , ie how does it get through customs , do they ring you for the duty or is courier collects tax?
    what is the process?

    cheers mac

You email a copy of your invoice to customs they'll contact you via post.

Then the package is sent out and you pay An Post at the depot.

I've never brought in a bike so I'm not sure of the process here. I'd allow for having to pay duty of some description though because I think they're clamping down on a lot of chinese deliveries these days. If the value is under €50 i don't think you're liable.
