Changing immersion thermostat setting

I've been unable to find good quality immersion switches (this will be my third) as they keep failing on the sink/bath switch (contacts fusing together).

The water has been way too hot and I guess I should have lowered the stat ages ago but upon opening the cover I don't understand the marked settings on the stat.

It's a bit hard to see in that image, here is what the markings say:

    -............+.....[single dot].....[double dot]

What is the -+ range (constant temp no thermo?)???
What do the single and double dots signify???

Turn the stat anti clockwise slightly and try that out.

Have you a timer on the immersion or is it left on or even used a lot?

-minus will lower the stat so should help.

That small directional arrow (currently pointing to 7 o clock ), move it to 2 o clock and try that out. Probably the approx equivalent to 60'C or thereabouts.
