Central Locking Failure

    Hi guys

I am looking for some assistance with a problem.

    I have a 05 Opel Astra H.

This is the story so far. One day the central locking works intermittently before failing altogether. Further, once the key has been removed the radio stays on instead of shutting off completely.

*Batteries have been replaced in both keys.
*The Astra has an internal button to engage the central locking which works satisfactorily.
    * I have tried, and it has not worked, to resynchronise the keys via inserting the key and turning the key to "lights on" but not engine start and cycling the lock/unlock button.
*Locking the door manually only locks the driver door. All the other doors, including the boot remain open.

    * I have noted while disconnecting the main battery and waiting between 5-30 minutes the central locking returns to full functionality and will work time and time again no problem. However here the problem gets interesting. Once I put the key in the ignition and START THE ENGINE and then shut the engine down the central locking stops working again.

I am not a mechanic, I have limited knowledge with cars but this is my view so far. My understanding is that Opel Astras cut the electrical power to the radio and other services once the key is removed from the ignition. It appears to me it is not registering the key being removed indicating a possible dirt / grime buildup inside the barrel or a problem with the plunger to tell the contact the key has been removed.

I had read somewhere to use WD40 inside the ignition barrel, but I was advised against this by a nice guy in halfords ( who engaged in a decent dialogue with me about the issue so kudos for that). He commented on using an air line to help clear out the barrel.

    That is it for now...

I would appreciate everyone's views and input into getting a solution to this if at all possible.

Many thanks everyone for your time and views.
    J
