Hi, I hope there are a fish lovers on this board. As I'm living in Sligo only one month I still have to spot town much better. I'm curious if there is any typical aquatic shop here? I already checked few pet stores but most of them are directed for other animals - not fishes. The only one I found is pet section in homeland beside finisklin however it's not perfect. Any other, better places?

Try Pet Dicsount store (I think it's called that) in the Retail Park at the top of the Pearse Road on the way to the Carraroe roundabout. Close to McDonalds and Burger King. Where Homebase is. It has some stock, but it's not a specialist aquatic centre. I presume the store you mentioned and visited was " Connaught Gold" beside the river?

I was there. Big shop however poor fish department. Have some equipment but no live stock, food etc.
The shop I mentioned is Homeland on Deepwater Quay, beside Greenstar depot. It's a garden centre and DIY but have animal department as well.
I seen another pet discount shop next to Polish shop on Lower Quay St but its always closed when I'm there so probably it's gone...

yeah the one on lower quay street is closed, homeland have the best quality in town and can get you anything you want. speak to john in the pet section and he can get fish etc, if you are looking for something that isn't there, there is another pet section in cannings house and garden opposite the sligo park hotel that can be of use, i generally get what i need online or in homeland. what specifically are you looking for?

I was looking for a new universal bulb (T8 15w) however wasn't in stock today. They had other ones, but most of them are recommended to use in sets but my cover fit only one...
anyway they told me already that I can order something and they will get it for me. Happy that they have frozen food which is not available in other places.

I guess it's the same place, just re-branded and Homeland is new name for it

Have you tried John the fishmonger in the wine st car park? There's also a guy in the market yard on Friday in the same business. Failing that Tesco or Dunnes have loads of options for fish lovers but I can't vouch for the quality.

OP, if it's just a bulb you're looking for, have you tried any electrical wholesalers?
Probably work out cheaper than a pet shop.

Completely agree, The only store I buy livetock in is Homeland (Previously called Connacht Gold/ Aurivo). The quality of the other pet shops was quite poor. I clearly remember the shop in the retail park selling fish called "sickelts". They're not the worst for dry goods though.

On Homeland; the staff are great, when you can get hold of them that is! But that's they problem with it being a home/garden store. They can order in pretty much any fish you want. I've done so a few times. I've also had no problems bringing fish back. They usually give you store credit for them. If you're still not sure, I highly recommend Seahorse aquariums in Dublin, think they also have a store in Galway now.If ya can't find it there, you wont find it in Ireland.

Thanks everybody for information and advice. I got what I wanted in Homeland . I wrote universal bulb however I meant standard aquatic bulb with proper spectrum. Problem solved.
I checked garden centre on Texaco but Homeland will remain my first go shop :)

Yes... seahorse (Dublin branch) is definitely one of two the best this kind of places in Ireland .
