2000 SEAT Ibiza 1.0, any known issues?

Thinking of buying one for a friend as a first car. Anyone know what they're like apart from being wowfully slow?

They're a bit grim inside, even compared to a polo.
A facelift polo would be more pleasant (relatively speaking)

A Yaris would be a better all rounder IMO

We owned 2000 Ibiza 1.0 for 3.5 years as a second car. Apart from petrol, insurance, tax and NCT fees we spent maybe 100-150 euro max on that car. That includes 2 partworn tyres for nct, couple of bulbs and 1 oil change, cant remember anything else but if there was anything, it must have been something minor. Car just kept going. Very very cheap motoring.

    Horrible driving experience though ;)

There's an issue with the radio not turning off causing the battery to drain, occurs on the later models that have the digital temperature and radio in one unit...

This is the unit in question...

we had one for a good few years around 2006 to 2010. It was a 2001 model with manual windows, no central locking and no extras of any sort. Slow and thirsty enough on the motorway. Super town car. As others have said, ours was very reliable. Servicing and tyres were all it ever needed. Changed the timing belt in it myself and it was a handy enough job.

We had the radio issue also, totally random when it would decide to turn itself on! In all, we found it a great little car adn i would get one again if I had the need for a small little motor.
