    Hi all

Just wondering if someone can help me out, i have been using PWC Tax Calculator online to work out my salary since i began working full time after graduating last year. In my last job i was on 27k and this calculator was spot on.

I have just recently moved to a new job and im no on 35K and according to that calculator should be paying about 130 quid less in tax than i am in my last payslip

i began working in the new job on March 20th and my gross pay this year is €9213.52

    total tax paid= 742.71

tax paid in last period = 446.34 but according to the PWC calculator (and i have also done the basic math myself manually) should only be paying €328!!

    33,800 @ 20% = €6760
    1,200@ 40% = €480
    totol = 7240
    - tax credit: 3300
    = 3940 tax over 12 months of the year = 328.33 a month?

    Am i missing something?

I got on to the revenue earlier to see if they could make sense of it for me but they said that i was right and i have paid extra tax but its not on their side? I didn't really understand what she was saying but something to do with cumulative tax and that the extra €165 i've paid since starting the new job is something to do with working for less money in my old job but should be refunded by my new employer?

She said that my total tax up to week 20 should be €573, not sure how she worked this out from my gross pay but it makes perfect sense as that pretty much what i have been taxed extra since working in the new place

Sorry if that doesn't make sense, it's all i got from the conversation and i don't understand what's going on.

Al i know is that PWC calculator was spot on in my old job with my wages and now i'm being left well short!

Really frustrated by this as the head of payroll is not being any help in the situation.:(:(:(:(

Any clarification of what's going on really appreciated, thanks

Go to revenue.ie and request a P21 balancing form, it will credit you any tax due and tell you if you owe anything. If not then try again at the end of the current tax year. You can claim back over paid tax up to 4 years ago this way.

I did this after suspecting I was paying too much tax, I questioned payroll but they said it was right. I requested a P21 online and got €3,300 back in overpaid tax for just one year.

I think what may be happening here is that your payroll is taxing you on the basis that your new salary is since January. Would that explain it?

Did you five them your p45?

I asked the lady in the revenue yesterday for a P21 and she said she would send it out but she said it was no use to me as it's for last year, i only began my new job in March. Id really rather the money now than later in the year if i could figure out what was wrong and get this sorted.

Yes they have my P45. Im not sure, if they were taxing me based on my new salary since January it still makes no sense to me

i just can't get my head around why im paying €446 in tax when it should only be €328

Did you move directly from one job to another without any break? If there was a break, did you claim any jobseekers benefit?

Do your pay slips from your new job have you on a week 1 or a cumulative basis?

I moved straight from one to another

I'm not sure? It says cumulative details in the bottom left section and under that, gross pay, taxable pay, tax credit, std cut off, tax paid? I assume that cumulative but i am just looking at my last payslip from my previous job and i had paid €450 tax their until the end of march and on my new payslip it says tax paid €742 and i was taxed €446 this month alone so none of it makes any sense to me
