Fairness is not possible

A bit of an epiphany about this, was listening to a debate on the same sex marriage referendum(could have been any issue ) on the radio and it was all ...you have a minute and a half, now the other side get there minute and half, no you cant have the last word the other side has to get the last word because you had the first word all in the name of fairness and balance, but it is ridicules no issue had an exact 50/50 support and it makes debate sound contorted and silly as well as privileging the minority view.

If after the referendum one side get 70% and the other 30% does that mean in future programs content will be split 70/30 for the sake of fairness.

It'll be split on a strict pro-rata basis depending on official manufacturer's CO2 figures, unless you also have glass cover, in which case there will be six more weeks of Easter.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I would add though, that it mostly depends on not the boat or otherwise?

The woman on newstalk arguing the no side this morning was giving out that all the parties and tds were advocating a yes vote and it wasn't fair. she seems to think that half the Dail should argue against the referendum even if they are for it .

You do understand that nothing has been decided until the vote takes place and that if this balance was not adhered to that it would be inferred that democracy was not being served ?

Lets not make any assumptions about what's understood and what's not.
    It could be a 50 50 split.

It could be argued that organisations such as the Iona 'Institute' have been given a disproportionate amount of airtime on this and many other issues, despite their having no more or less standing than your local golf club?

I heard her,if anything she probably swayed a few no voters over to the yes camp.Grating on the ear

Quite and I'm sending back any children they insist I take in.

Seriously, it's pretty horrendous at the moment but if they impose the conditions on vaccination or climate change debates, we'll have a whole generation of super uninformed people.

Please discuss anything relating to the marriage referendum within the marriage referendum thread.

    Thank you.
