Does anyone own / have any experience of this car? I'm considering it as an alternative to an SUV - something a bit different. I'm looking at the 2009 onwards 2.0TDI 170 version.

One off-putting factor is the annual motor tax - Band D €570!

Thanks in advance for any knowledge / advice.

The €570 tax should make them less desireable from the cheap tax brigade despite the fact it's only €250-€300 more than similar cars, should work in your favour.

I suppose an alternative for space would be the Skoda Superb estate but that wouldn't have the same level of ground clearance.

Why are people so obsessed with motor tax rates I'd spend the difference on a good night out OP. What about the Octavia Scout or Passat Alltrack. .

Saw a Scout pass our gate yesterday evening - first time in the flesh - very nice I thought, and something to consider when our Saab 9-5 retires......

I'd have the Skoda over the Audi anyday tbh. And I like Audis!

You think €570 is expensive tax ??? crumbs - dunno what you'd make of €1809 then..........

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

€570 v €280 (average cost of most post 2007 diesels) is a difference of €290 spread over 12 months which is under €6 per week. If €6 extra per week is an issue for you then your probably looking at the wrong type of car to being with.

lolz - doesn't really sound like there's much of a budget there for the correct spec oil and quality tyres!

What's 570 - about 1.6 or 1.8 on the old cc tax rates? I'd be well happy to be paying less than 600 for a decent sized engine in ireland.

Thank you, i know of people who have spent 10k upgrading a car to save 300 euro a year, there is no greater modern Irishism.

Why dont you keep an eye out for a B7 A4 1.9TDi Quattro. Cheaper car, cheaper tax, rare as hens teeth.

There is no such thing as a B7 1.9 tdi quattro, only the B5's and B6's had them.
