    I'd go Dublin - Cork - N22 Macroom - Baile Bhuirne (Ballyvourney) - r569 - Kilgarvan - Kenmare.

I'd be inclined to take the M7 to Limerick, the N21 to Castleisland, N23 to Farranfore and then N22 to Killarney. Sounds complicated but its really a follow your nose road. Take the N22 from Killarney -- the Cork road - until you come to the same Kilgarvan/Kenmare turn off for the R569 and away you go. Avoid Molls Gap and the N71 whatever you do.

Only caution about this is that there are road works on the N21 outside Newcastlewest and if you hit them at morning or evening peaks you will get delayed. (Adare village is the same)
Less than 4 hours from Newlands X to Killarney and then a good hour (+) to Caherdaniel.
You could always go one way and come back the other :)

LOL It sounds like a case of which ever you go you wish you went the other!

As some one who lives down here near Kenmare this is always the routing I take when going to Dublin, forget about the journey from Limerick to Kerry, speed vans everywhere and limited overtaking opportunities.
