    Hi,

I have one laying round at home in need of an engine replacement, the bottom end knocks when warm, ,mechanic had told me in advance the crank was gone/worn? and the cylinder heads tapps lie a sewing machine (since I had it).

Was thinking of getting an engine swap or rebuild ?? Would anyone have an idea of the cost involved of rebuild ????

Also does anyone know of any dedicated Peugeot specalisets or breakers ?? there has been nothing on done deal or adverts recently except an odd rough car up north

Problem with a rebuild is your crank will be out of round so will ideally need replacing, also the tapping is a common problem and is caused by bent valves as a result of the cambelt snapping(36,000 intervals which are often ignored) or being fitted slightly incorrectly (very little room for error on these) To repair that would be a complete head rebuild including new valve guides and valves themselves on all affected cylinders.

There are plenty of engines around, particularly in the UK for very little money, but again its hard to get a non tapper due to the issues outlined above. The 306oc owners club will probably be of alot of help to you.
