The road to self employment - questions

    Hi all,

I went the big 4 route and have very little exposure to the smaller more self employed side of practice.

What would be a good route for myself to take to get into this path? Should I do the following courses? (not only to have them to my name but more to educate myself more on matters that I think a small accountant would deal with):

    A) Chartered Tax Consultancy Course
    B) QFAs

Should I try network? I have no issues with networking, I'm not shy but I am a little "clueless" about this area.

Should I look to getting employed in a small practice sooner rather than later?

I think the most important thing would be to start working in a small practice.

You'll need your 2 years post qualification experience to get a practice cert.

Tax exams are a good qualification alright. I have these as well as am accounting qualification and I think clients like the fact that i have a dual qualufication.
