Meridian Peanut Butter Appreciation Thread

Sitting hear with my new 1kg tub of Meridian smooth peanut butter and what can I say? It's an absolute beast of a food!

Whatever your goal may be, trying to lose weight? It's one of the best foods for leaving you with a feeling of satiety, one spoonful (25g) is enough to curb the appetite of a tiger. Trying to gain weight? It provides 580ish calories per 100g. It's an absolute weapon.

Just cooked a chicken breast and a thought crossed my mind. To pour some of the natural oil from the peanut butter on my chicken and let it soak in for flavour. It was an experience.

    Here she is in all her glory;

Agree? Disagree? What food would you like to show your appreciation for? What has helped you with your fitness goals?

Where I got it today it was €7. Have gotten it cheaper and dearer. Last week Tesco were doing 280g jars for €1.50 when it's usually €3ish. I find prices vary in different places with it.

If you like peanut and eat the usual brands like Kelkin and Panda this is gonna change your life. It's special.

    It's great

    *opens 1kg tub*

Honourable mention to Whole Earth Crunchy peanut.

But really, all nut butters ever tbh.

    *licks empty 1kg tub*

Also, their Cashew and Almond butters.

Have tried them too, some days I prefer the cashew over the almond, and then the almond over the cashew. It's weird. Both very nice though.

Peanut butter is the winner for me though.

The pink lady is essential there tbh. No other Apple compares. Miles ahead of the rest.

That's the same with everyone I thjnk. It's too easy to polish off a full jar. So addictive! Like, seriously seriously addictive!

Hi, my name is DDVM and I'm a peanutbutteraholic.

I seen they're doing bars too in each of the flavours, anyone tried them? I've yet to try them.

I've had it before it's lovely. Used to buy it when it was buy 1 get 1 for 1p in Holland and Barrett. Now I buy from myprotein or bulk powders.

Myprotein is quite like meridian but cheaper. Bulk powders is nice as well but 'smoother' than the other two. I'd say try the myprotein if you haven't already; also their almond butter is delicious and 'cheap' relative to the prices I see for jars of almond butter

Where's the best place to get it, Tesco? Or is it in most supermarkets? My peanut butter addiction is growing stronger by the day!

another food product for the majority of the clueless sheep on here to go crazy for as somone has said its nice

faage and this peanut compan must be very happy.

what's so different from this peanut butter than the others in tescos that are 97% peanut only ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,386 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

Amazon sell it now at a reasonable enough price, think its about €8. And if you order £25+ delivery is "free".

If you see smaller tubs in shops ask if they have the larger ones, in a H&barret they had it out back as it was presumably taking up too much space.

The empty 1kg tubs are great for storing stuff in. You'd pay a few euro for an empty one of similar quality in tesco.

what's so different from this peanut butter than the others in tescos that are 97% peanut only ?
Which one is 97%? did a search there and found none, I would like one that high if the price was right. I get meridian when I see it as it was cheaper and I absolutely hate sweet peanut butter. I am not avoiding sugar by anymeans, eat loads of processed sugar. I just like it most, and its cheap so win win. I guess you consider people drinking coke to be "clueless sheep" too?

    98% peanut, 2% Fage.

with regards to coke -yes its a disgusting drink

Ive no doubt the peanut butter is very good and one of the healthier options, it is just interesting to see all the posts that will follow similar to the faage thread

OMG where is this? my local shop has it now, I NEED THIS . I LOVE IT WOW WOW WOW OMG I MUST GET IT NOW etc etc oh and with everyone of those statements followed by a :p

as if their life is finally complete now

you need to relax. You strike me as an angry hipster above us all mainstream sheep

fair play if you found peanut butter in tesco at 97% - I couldn't - it was 85% to 92% I was reading on the other brands.

The merdian is nicer (imo) and doesn't contain palm oil and the other additives - personally I try to avoid that type of stuff. irrational i know but it's my cash.

I eat fage too - but in my supermarket it is the only brand that is greek yogurt and not "greek-style". A subtle difference but on food labeling it makes a huge difference.

If I wanted "greek style" I'd party in the george.

What the hell is Fage and where can I get it? I need it straight away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,907 ✭✭✭power pants

its the yummiest and bestest thing in the world to eat

I have it hanging from my bedroom ceiling so when I wake up, I pull the draw string and make it splat on my face before I get out of bed

I then bath in it, brush my teeth with it

Breakfast time is fage time :P I have a nice pot of it nom nom nom faaaaaaaaaaaaaage:p :p

then I wear my fage outfit and walk to work singing the fage song nom nom nom faage :p

I then sit at work and think about fage. Sometimes I go to the toilets and fage myself silly nom nom nom

lunchtime is a spent spotting all the shops that sell fage and noticing the difference of 1c in some places.

I then go home and eat more faage

nom nom gains fage nom nom :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

    I love fage:p

    nommy nom noms nome:p

Oh no, :( I was being serious what is Fage and why is it good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,907 ✭✭✭power pants

it is a greek yogurt that has 50g of protein per 500g pot

Oh no, :( I was being serious what is Fage and why is it good?

It's pretty nice and has decent macros.

Power pants is just a bit bitter that he can't eat it anymore now it's become popular.

500g gram tub gives you 52g of protein, thrown in some fruit and honey and it's a nice snack.

20 gram carbs and no fat too if I recall correctly.

Jesus I do hate the fage/meridian thing too.

Especially from people that go and binge on ****ing burgers, chocolate and alcohol at the weekend.

I believe Meridian actually manufacture the Myprotein stuff so should be identical if not very close I imagine.

I've tried the bulk powders one, both the smooth one and the crunchy one. Both lovely. Decent price too as there always seems to be discount counts and % off sales. Handy too if you've a few other things to get on it, free delivery.

Must try the myprotein one, thanks.

I've seen it in Tesco, Dunnes and Joyces (Galway) It's in all health food shops too. When H&B do their 'buy one get one for 1p' sale it's good value. As mentioned, Tesco were doing 280g tub for €1.50 last week. That's a good bit over the 1kg for €6. Best I've seen them at.

I have eaten their peanut, almond and cahew butters, very nice. Would prefer to just blend to make my own nut butter though, yum yum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 819 ✭✭✭glasagusban

Way nicer than any other brand, simple as. Myprotein coming second. Blend with chocolate protein, milk and spoon of cocoa -better than any milkshake.

What's the difference between this and the Kelkin Crunchy Natural Unsalted one?

I was looking for differences between all the peanut butters earlier in Tesco and can't say I found much difference between them. One was organic and the only real difference between the others was the sugar\salt content.

I usually just get the Kelkin Crunchy Organic one, but I don't eat peanut butter that often so it doesn't really bother me if the macros are ****e.

Health nutz in the mill in clondalkin are selling a 1jg tub of meridian peanut butter for 5.95 or 6.95 (cant remember which!) at the moment

I can double check that price today if anyone wants me to.

Kelkin was a lot more expensive whenever I saw it. And I think it has a little palm oil in it. And do they have an unsalted one? or is it just no added sugar?

Are you sure its kelkin and not whole earth? I can see no sites mentioning an organic kelkin one.

yep, thats what unadulterated peanut butter looks like alright. The other brands mix in unecessary shite to make it look less like... shite...

I'm not a fan of peanut butter but I did, out of curiosity, try the stuff they make in-house in The Hopsack and it tasted the least like the other ones I've tries, in the best possible way.

    But peanut butter...meh.

Peanut butter is only fantastic as an ingredient for me, smoothies, protein ball things etc. peanut and jelly sandwiches are also amazing.

On its own its just meh
