I have recently changed job where I was out of work (unpaid) for 5-6 weeks between leaving the old one and starting the new one. What effect (if any) would this have on my tax situation? Would I be owed anything from revenue?

potentially, it will be dealt with by your new employer through payroll

Your new employer will be the one who's in charge on your taxes,
no don't have to be worried about it. :)
