Porter's team say they've signed a deal to face Broner at 144lbs. Broner hasn't signed yet.

Big gamble from Porter's team to take a fight at 144. It's on June 20th too.

Porter hoping to do a Maidana on Broner, not sure he's capable, esp if weight drained, I was pretty unimpressed by him against Brook.

If the weight doesn't effect him too much I think he is more than capable of doing a better bull rush job than Maidana. A bit of a neater hitter. Broner's issue here is he isn't strong enough at this weight, nor defensive enough to hold Porter off for long enough. It may resemble Malignaggi-Porter. Kell Brook had the combination of physicality, power and neat defense to beat Porter. Porter has the power to really hurt Broner.

Anyway, not a done deal yet: Gotta laugh at this from Broner.

"The question should be if Porter gets to where I've been, than we'll fight," Broner said. "I hope he does someday and becomes a big-time contender in the sport and we'll make it happen."

I think a healthy Porter would maul Broner.

Broner's major flaws are his heavy feet and his poor ring IQ. He has a very poor understanding of his opponent's intentions which is why he's not the counter-puncher he was initially touted as being. He freezes up in the face of volume and looks extremely uncomfortable when the opponent puts him on the back foot. If you think about how panicked he looked when Ponce De Leon pressed him, or how inactive he was when Paulie threw combinations, you can easily see Porter giving him a serious battering.

But I don't think Porter can possibly be healthy at 144, and the word is there's going to be a 155 rehydration limit which will only make matters worse. Porter can't beat Broner from range so he needs to be working his way inside all the time in this fight. If he doesn't have the energy to do that it might well be a fight he could lose.

Porter is a beast, unless the weight effects him badly Porter will put Broner to sleep within 6 rounds.

I can't put a case up for Broner in this fight the only thing I worry like most of you have said is weight

Why is 144lbs a big issue for Porter when he has been fighting away at WW? He is only 5-7, surely the extra few lbs wouldn't be that big an issue?

Seems like that, but maybe he's dead tight at 146 and 147. If so, then 2-3 lbs below may be a step too far. Even still, a little weaker should still see him plough through Broner, who really is a normal 140 lber. If Broner was stronger and with a dig then the fights evens up a bit.

I think Broner might win this by a handy UD

He's very big at the weight and was fighting as a middleweight in the amateurs. That rehydration clause would be a killer if true.

Yeah he's big for welterweight. And he had to go bollock naked to make 147 last time out. He's going to be drained.

At first glance this looks a disaster for Broner, but as already pointed out Porter finds it very hard to hit 147, not to mind 144.

I won't be betting on this one, as I think the weight issue really evens things up.

Anyone know which limb Porter is chopping off to make the weight ?, could have a big impact on the fight.

Broner wins this easily, he might even get the stoppage. Porter would likely win if the fight was made at the Welterweight limit, but he's far too tight at that already, he's got no chance if he has to drain an extra 3 lbs from himself. If he can't even rehydrate properly after I'm quite concerned for his safety in there.

I'd still maybe lay a bet that he beats Broner even struggling to get the weight off. Broner is not a killer. He's patient, lazy and not all that imposing or strong. In other words, if you were to pick a foe to fight after really struggling to make weight, with the fear of being not at 100 percent then Broner would be high in the pick list. If Porter gives it a fair heavy lash in the first few rds then he may well get Broner out of there.

We know that Porter can bang a bit, and we know that Broner is not all that difficult to hit so I would be leaning in favour of a Porter win. I'm not sure if Broner has developed much since the Maidana fight.

Errol Spence is on that undercard. Looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about.

Also, Golovkin vs Willie Monroe Jr should be a decent enough bout. And Fury vs Klitchko.

For me this one is harder to call that most others are suggesting. I agree that Broner is a flawed fighter but so is Porter. I would give Broner a much better chance at winning than others.

One of Porters biggest strengths is his strength! The catch weight of 145 could go some way in nullifying this advantage and I believe there may be a contracted secondary weight as well not sure thought.

Broner doesn't thrown enough punches and has struggled when he has stepped up on opposition, however Porter was lucky enough the get a draw against Julio Diaz.
