It doesn't really give much specifics on the website. It seems to be basically a UPC type deal.

Technically the license applies to devices receiving a wireless broadcast via a TV tuner. So this might not fall under that description when there's no TV involved which would have the ability to receive a wireless broadcast.

I think you might be OK, but you should probably ask eircom if the box itself falls under the TV license.

I have evision (it's not bad really!) - what it consists of is a (fibre) modem and a set top box. The box connects to the modem via LAN and to the TV/display via HDMI.

Technically as it's receiving the broadcast via Ethernet/IP no tuner is needed and as such no license should be required (same as you don't need one for an Android box or Chromecast).. but I'm not sure I'd test that in court, and it'll probably be addressed in the upcoming Broadcasting bill.

thank you guys For ur reply. I am going to ask eircom regarding this. I do not think a tv license is required in this situation. Even go to court, it is still can be proven there is no tunner on any device (box & monitor)
