Ebay and Money Back Guarantee Problem for Irish Buyer

    Hi All,
Just a word of warning to Ebay buyers with the offer of Money Back Guarantee.
I learnt this the hard way.
Purchased a secondhand laptop on Ebay.ie from a UK seller and when I received the laptop it was complete junk, far from what was described.

Anyway, I sent the seller a request for a refund and he would not cooperate.
So I filed a case with Ebay and when I asked them to step in they said that because I used Ebay.ie I was not entitled to the Money Back Guarantee option.
It appears that Ebay.ie users do not qualify for the Money Back Guarantee.

Are you saying the item you bought was not eligible for buyer protection? Did ebay say why not and is this notified to you before you buy?

    Yes,
The Money Back Guarantee only applies if you use Ebay.co.uk to purchase your item.
I was on Ebay.ie when I purchased the item from a UK seller and therefore the Money Back Guarantee does not apply for Ebay.ie users.
So my advice is to use Ebay.co.uk if you are purchasing items from UK sellers.
And if you are looking to return an item and the seller does not cooperate then check to see if you qualify for the Money Back Guarantee before filing a case through Ebay, because if you file a case through Ebay and you do not qualify then you cannot file a case with PayPal

If it's not as described open a dispute with paypal. Ebay are useless when it come to compaints.

That is what i am saying. You cannot open a case with PayPal if you already have one open, so choose wisely.

Open an ebay dispute and escalate to a claim pretty much the next day. Faffing about only leaves the whole thing open to a time expiry. Ebay will side with you if the seller doesn't play ball or doesn't respond (well they did with me anyway more that once.)
Failing that, if you pay your Paypal with a credit card ask your bank for a refund, as credit cards cover this as a case of fraud.
