Are't these people who proudly announced - as if it is a great personal achievement - that they come from a 'die hard [INSERT POLITICAL PARTY HERE] family' really just announcing to the world that they are mindless morons without any freewill or intellect of their own?

It is the sense of 'great honour' these clowns attach to this statement when they makes it so bizarre.

More importantly, this mentality keeps the same gangsters in political power from generation to generation.

I've never actually met anyone like that. Lucky/unlucky me I suppose?

Same can be said for Patriotism.

Isn't that statement usually followed by "...but THIS time..." etc ??

occasionally, but most time it is justifying votes for the 'family' party.

As in "I come from a staunch Republican family: but this time I am going to vote Monarchist, because that shower of..." etc.

How else did FF finally get the boot?

Never understood people who vote for the same party their whole lives. Seems to make a mockery of democracy.

Even more retarded versions of XBOX/PS fanboys.

Very similar to people supporting a team. Much of the value in being a fan is tied up with how your parents were big supporters before you or how its linked to a parish, town or county. Seems like a crazy way to look at political parties, but for many its not really about track records or policies. It's a tribal thing.

I can't understand it myself, I know plenty of people who 'support' political parties which I find both baffling and potentially dangerous. But also it just proves you're not thinking for yourself, if you vote the same way daddy or grandaddy etc voted in Ireland that means your mind was made up long before you were even conceived, now that is inconceivable!!!

Votes do swing and governments do change, though, so there must be plenty of people who are open to making up their own minds afresh each time. Comforting to know!

Yes obviously governments have changed however since we achieved independence in the 20s we've never had a government that wasn't led by either Fianna Fail or Fine Gael (Cumann na nGaedheal more or less was FG) and FF has been in power for a whopping 61 years out of it's 83 years in existence.

On the back of all that you could hardly argue that people's opinions have changed in any meaningful way over the years, plus FF & FG are largely similar parties these days anyway so I have to laugh when they go at length to try and convince people how different they are.

Ps, just so you know I'm not affiliated to any particular party and I despise SF.
