Just had what looked like a 737 flying low over north kilkenny making a very strange noise, anyone anyone else see or hear it. It was heading towards east coast/dublin. Wonder did it have engine trouble?

More than likely just engines operating normally and the Doppler effect mate.

I'd say it was the Thomas Cook A320 out of Dublin doing some training. It went out over the Atlantic for a spin before returning to Shannon for a few circuits and then headed over North Kilkenny towards the east coast at 10,000ft before returning to Dublin.

I think it was a Thompson training flight. It went over me a few minutes ago on its way into Dublin and sounded a bit unusual but within normal parameters.

Replay TCW911T on flight radar around the time the OP mentioned. It's a training flight out of Dublin that's been all around the place doing various manoeuvres :).

There was an outbound Aer Lingus at about 13.45 still had its gear down over Dunboyne I thought it might be a test flight and sounded different when passing over but it was turning too. I wonder could it of been it? It's a bit unusual to have hear down that long after takeoff right?

OO-TCQ was out testing today. Had its RAT (ram air turbine ) deployed

Here's an A380 with RAT deployed

This is very distinctive with the 146. I think it's when the flaps are moving, and the airfow over the wings is in transition.

Further research indicates that's it's a combination of the airflow through the gap between the flaps and the fuselage, and through the slot which opens between the wing and the flap when the flaps are down. The change in pitch of the sound is caused by the altering gaps when the flaps are moving.

Glorious video of approach over London towards London City. Haven't experienced it yet myself, always end up landing to the west :(

This was more likely a post-maintenance test flight rather than a training one.

Think you quoted the wrong post, I said testing.

Any idea why the Aer Lingus flight I spotted had its gear down for so long or is it normal in certain circumstances?
