Really Odd Sky Problem

I have Sky+ and this morning(11am) when I turned on the TV there was no pic. The message from the Sky+ box was "disconnect the box for 5 mins ect" so I did this all to no avail. I then rang Sky and the guy there finally got me to check out the Services/Signal Test which showed no signal and a Not Locked message in 2 lock indicators fields. The guy then went on to tell me my Sky+ box was knackered where he then went into full sales pitch trying to get me hooked up with Sky HD to which I declined. He then told me it would cost €100 for a new Sky+ box as I am out of contract and also told not to buy a Sky+ box on Adverts or Donedeal as they would be dodgy. I politely declined all his offers and hung up. To my mind no sat signal seemed to be pointing to the Sky Dish and maybe alignment issues as I heard there was high winds last night. I spent the next couple of hours looking at YouTube videos about realigning a Sky Disk. While I was doing this at 13:05 I heard talking coming from the TV room and upon checking saw that Sky was back up. I immediately checked the Signal Strength of the feed and it was just fine with both lock indicators reading OK. Up to this point I had not touched either the Sky Dish or the feeds that come off it and go into the Sky+ box. Any ideas what is going on here, was the issue, a Sky problem or was it on my end.

Check cable going in to skybox and lnd on dish is secure. Next best thing would be to bring the skybox to a neighbours house with a dish and connect, if it doesn't work there box is the cause, if it does your dish is the cause and probably misaligned with the wind.

Was it windy at the time? Just keep an eye on it over the next few days.

My neighbour had the same problem a while ago --- no signal etc .
I offered to try a known working box on their dish cables but they declined as they had already phoned Sky to arrange a visit.
The guy arrived and all he did was a software update --- hold in the backup button while powering on.
To be honest I didn't think this would cure the problem --- but it did.
I have never heard of that before -- I checked that both dish leads were tightly screwed in and making contact which they were.
    Most odd.

I have sort of the same problem but with one frequency only. Wen I scan 111.426 V 27.5 2/3 DVBS QPSK I get no satellite signal all other frequencies are fine. Had two engineers out both did a software update but I still can't pick up any channels on that frequency. Imput signal one is fine but no signal on imput signal 2. I'm baffled.

If anything its your dish, signal quality should be at 70% or more on both feeds to enable you to have a stable picture with no drop outs.

Cheers lads, looks like my research into aligning a Sky Disk wont go to waste. The signal went again so I hooked up the feed from the disk to my TV(Panny Kuro 500A) that has 2 inbuilt tuners, guess what, no siginal. This points to the Sky Dish being moved during the high winds, well I hope that's it. What is still bugging me is the fact that the signal returns from time to time, in fact it's back now but has been gone since yesterday afternoon. I assume the fact that the Panny is also not getting a signal from the feed from the dish when it goes is pretty damming. Appericate all the feedback.

This was happening to me very intermittently a few years back. It got quite annoying and was very random.
Checked all the connections, wiring, etc but there was no issues at all.
Then one morning was out walking, happened to look up at our dish and there perched on the LNB arm was a crow basking in the sunshine!!!
Then it occurred to me that the signal loss used to happen in the mornings when the sun was hitting the front of the house where the dish is facing.
It happened a few times after and I went out and checked the dish and there was the crow sunbathing again.
A quick shout or loud noise and he flew away, problem solved!!

This mightn't be your problem but it's worth a check

As hinted at earlier in the thread, it's probably just the wind re-aligning the dish, & then misaligning it again, or moving something that's blocking its line-of-sight.

Other temporary obstructions could include birds, as mentioned in the previous post, or people opening windows or skylights in the LOS of your dish.

Could also be wind or rain upsetting the cables. As for birds, the easiest thing is to use cable ties on the dish arm with the free end pointing up to discourage perching.
