I have NCT scheduled for this week. My car is 14 years old.

The key will not open drivers door anymore, lock seems to be broken. Will it fail because of this?

But the door will open and close without issue so long as it's not locked?

Put it through anyway, leave door unlocked. It may fail on something else too, or not fail at all.

or locked, and don't let the tester out of your car until he agrees to pass NCT :pac:

yes, it opens and shuts no problem, the only problem comes when you need to get in, you have to open from passenger side.

Going to put it thru and see what happens!

So, can you open the drivers door from the drivers side or not ?

If you cannot, then it'll fail.

However, if your problem is having to open the drivers door from the inside only after central locking is engaged, then don't lock it at the NCT centre. I'd be waiting it the car also, with the door open, just in case he comes out and locks it with the fob by mistake. Just tell him you left something in the car. He won't test the lock once he's in.

Im on a mobile, but I dont think it's a fail to not have a working lock. So long as the car doors open and close from outside and in, then it should be fine. The testers are pretty good about this. I had the tester pop into the waiting room and get me to open my bonnet because it was slightly broken.

Ha! It's not a Focus, is it? Exactly the same problem here. Couple of weeks ago at NCT, I just left the car open and either they didn't notice or didn't care.

It failed on rear shocks in any event.

There is no mention of door locks in the NCT Manual, just that 'catches' and 'receivers' are operating properly i.e. that the door is not going to suddenly open when driving.

My interpretation of the 'security' of catches and receivers in bullet '1' below would be that they are referring to how good they are at keeping the door closed when the car is in motion, not about keep thieves out since there is no mention of door locks. Others may interpret it differently - your mileage may vary.

Examine the general condition of all doors.

    1. Open each door and check the security of catches and receivers.
    2. Close the door and, without using the handle, note whether the door primary and secondary catches hold the door closed.
    3. By opening and closing each door note whether the door pillars are sound (see Item 35 for reasons for failure).
    4. If the vehicle is fitted with sliding doors examine the condition of the runners and tracks and actuating mechanism.
    5. Check that the steering lock is not fouling the steering mechanism when the ignition is switched on.

Isn't it also considered safety equipment? If you can't open the door, no change you'll pass. You'll fail on point 2 under DOOR/LOCKS/ANTI-THEFT DEVICES.
    1. A door missing.
    2. Door cannot be shut or opened normally or is liable to open on its own.
    3. Insecure receivers or catch.

Grossly misleading statement - 'no problem' followed by 'the only problem'. You're not in sales by any chance?

The tester will close the door when the car is inside in a testing bay and he will need to get back in to drive it to the next testing bay or to simply drive it out to the car park so it will definitely fail when he discovers that the door 'cannot be shut or opened normally'.

Tell the tester its got the dukes of hazards doors.

    it passed

my statement should have read it cannot be unlocked / locked from the driver side, the doors open and shut properly, its the locking key mechanism that broke.

We since solved the issue by moving the locking mechanism from the passenger side to the driver side.

    Good news.
