When should you disclose notice period

I've been looking to leave my current job for about 12 months but I can't even get an interview. My current job requires 4 weeks notice, and I have this stated on my cover letter. I've been suspecting for awhile that this could be one of the reasons I'm having no luck.

I sent off my CV nearly 2 weeks ago for a position. The job advertisement stated that they would forward on an application pack to anyone with an appropriate CV. The only requirements for the job was a Leaving Cert and experience working with the public. I have both, plus over 3 years experience in a related field, but never heard back. Should I take the notice period off of my cover letter? And if so, when should I disclose it?

I would remove it from your cover letter
Try getting the interviews first then when you get a Job deal with the notice period most employers will not hold you to it once you handle it well and professionally and once you have a new job to go to you will be more confident giving in your notice

    Good luck

Thanks. I'll take it off and see if it improves my chances. There's no way my current employer will let me out of my notice period, as we take a minimum of 3 months to replace. I'm hoping a potential employer might be willing to wait if I impressed enough at interview.

I don't see any reason for you to include this in your cover letter, you will normally first disclose this only when asked at interview.

To be honest though I really cannot see a 4 week notice period has being an issue at all? I would actually consider that very reasonable.

As the previous posters have said there is no need for it on your CV.
It usually only gets asked during an interview, and at that point it usually means that they are interested in you and the 4 week wait wouldn't be an issue.
