Lorraine Higgins and Pat Rabbitte are proposing 2 new bills which if they become law will greatly curtail freedom of speech.

I wrote a little piece on my blog about it which will give you more info than seen in the Mainstream Media. To read it please visit here

This is despicable and to be expected from politicians who are scared of criticism, but all it will require to mitigate it a massive upsurge in the use of Tor and other anonymising technologies by citizens.

Would they ever cop themselves on and go after online child porn and not be bothering with people making idiotic comments on twitter and the like

Let the website deal with them via warnings/banning rather than the state reprimanding them.

Both members are proposing them as private members bills. Both private members bills will go nowhere. Calm down.

Can't go writing anything that comes into your head about people.
Criticism about a political figure or somebody in the public eye is a completely different matter and not what's intended by the proposed bill as I understand it.

What is also worrying is that under these proposed laws non US based twitters users have to obey them.

Would defamation laws not cover that?

Yes, and the website moderators can delete and ban.

So telling teenage kids to go kill themselves and driving them to suicide will now become illegal? Sign me up.

Also, nice clickbait on your blog ;)
