Cows not in heat

What approach should I use for cows non showing heat?
I am using a vasectiomised bull, tail painting and scratchers for the past 5 weeks. I want to maxamise use of AI yet I still want compact calving.

Should I just inject all non heat showing animals with prostaglandin followed by AI 24-48hrs later? Or should I get the vet to check them all or will he just use PG regardless?

    Definitely check them out

Last yr I used the lad that scans to make sure nothing is wrong inside he is quite a bit cheaper than the vet and is good. If the cow is thin or too fat then they won't cycle.
I got all in calf last yr so will try and tighten up the calving next yr

I have the same problem, the cows seem to be coming on heat but aren't being mounted. The vet suggested estrumate in my case I inject 4 cows a day there are a few starting to show heat now. I had a heifer a few days ago that was passing blood she obviously was in Heat the day before but her tail paint was intact.

there a solution that vets have and it's basically a very very weak iodine wash

did it a few years back when we had cows not coming in/showing heat and it worked a treat

next time you have the AI man in get him to give a few them an internal massage....it can stimulate them...might sound mad but we've done this twice already this year when they were 2-3days away from cycling and it helps

I would not recommend this method as one shot of PG is not sufficient to use fixed time AI. If you do not have the time for heat detection consider a fixed time AI program. Should discuss with your vet what will work best for your cows based on dairy/beef/length of time post calving.

I'd say the real problem now is the bad weather. Nothing like a bit of heat and sun on their backs to get them going.

My cows have been out on grass since march 29th but not seen anything bulling yet.. I bought a bullock there and threw him in and I dosed all this evening with Natural Stockcare BOOST stuff 70mls down the hatch, they in good nick and got precalver licks all winter.. no reason why they shouldn't be bulling mad.. im expecting a clatter of them together .. bit of heat would be great!

    Day 1 CIDR + 2.5cc Busol (Receptal)
    Day 8 Prostaglandin
    Day 9 CIDR out

as far as I know this will sort most issues, don't need vet call
