Workplace bullying and issues advice

    Hi everyone,

I am writing in hopes of receiving some advice on my current situation.

Let's just say that after a very long period of searching for work almost nationwide I was offered what seemed to be a reasonably good job, with decent hours and a good starting wage (9.50 an hour). Keeping in mind that I am rather young, have no secondary school qualifications, nor have I any college experience or have I had any other job than simple, once off jobs and mild seasonal work.

For this job I had to pack my things and leave my very small town and move to Cork City, where I rented a room and commenced working. From the start work was a nightmare; I'm the only full-time individual who is not a native, and I was informed by a consortium of staff that I was not one of them, I would never be and was not particularly wanted as they wished my position had been awarded to one of their brothers, sisters, cousins... etc. I kept my head down and worked through constant intimidation, vague threats and harassment and being persuaded to do jobs that are not part of my contract; such as cleaning vehicles for friends of senior staff. Things really came to a head recently when items disappeared and I was, basically, blamed, until I threatened legal action stating that there were numerous cameras and the perpetrator would easily be spotted - they recoiled and the matter blew over. More the fool I for not leaving after that.

But, after a recent threat I had my fill and stated that I wished to quit, and have since handed in my leave. I am badly in need of another job and was hoping to at the very least have some possibilities lined up by the end of my leave. I had some free time near the end of my leave that I was promised off, though that has since been changed. I am wondering, am I entitled to take the days off either way and use up sick days that I am entitled to, even without a doctor's note?
