2.2 Honda Civic

Hi all - I'm looking to upgrade my 98 1.3 Corolla. I want a reliable, stylish, efficient 5 door hatchback. My daily commute is about 15 mins either way, mostly city driving, but I intend to cycle this most days. I drive to Cork from Dublin most weekends. I'm averaging about 10k miles every year.
I've put my eye on a 5 yo 2.2l diesel Honda Civic with 100k miles on the clock. It comes with full service history. I'm just wondering, assuming the car is kosher, would this be a good buy in relation to my driving?
Would really appreciate any opinions. Thanks.

I'm not sure your driving/mileage requires a diesel.

Get the 1.8 petrol version instead. You don't need a diesel.
The 1.8 is quite efficient and less of a risk mechanically.

    Agree - get 1.8 petrol.
Only 110 euro more to tax.
On your city runs, petrol will be probably even more efficient than diesel.
On longer runs, you might do 1 l/100km worse in petrol than diesel.
With your mileage, saving on fuel will be very insignificiant.
However possible repair cost might be much higher on diesel version than petrol.

I got 2.2 diesel 09 civic myself. I do about 30k kilometres a year, out of which nearly all country road driving + long motorway journeys, and virtually no city driving, and still wonder if I did right thing by choosing diesel instead of petrol.
And BTW, had a car for just over 2 years. Car is at 200k km at the moment, and still didn't suffer any problems except from some very minor ones, but sooner or later clutch and DMF are going to go, and this will cost me at least €1000. Any trouble with turbo, injectors, etc. will be very costly as well, however good thing is that those cars are very reliable so maybe it's going to be another few years before I have to spend a fortune.

Good thing about those diesel (in 8th gen civic) is that most of them don't come with DPF, so one less problem to worry about, especially in city driving.
