    hi all

im on a ce scheme since last june im 31.unemployed since 2009I really love the work because what im doing is actually the work i want to do.its 19.5 hours a weeks but I do a lot more than that as I love the work and its great to have a reason to get up in the mornings ..its working on walk trail trails in the forests and woodlands..we had a visit from the dsp officer during the week for registration for the new year abd she told me I have only 11 weeks left..i was really disappointed..worst news since I lost my job back in 2009..is there anyway I can get another year as I really love the work..has anyone been in this situation ?

I believe you have to be 35 or older to be kept on for a max of 3 years... that's how it used to be anyway.

Why don't you approach whoever is in charge of the trails/walks and see if you can become a volunteer once the scheme is finished? Once it does not affect your ability to seek and be available for full time work, it shouldn't affect a social welfare payment. It will allow you to continue doing what you love for roughly the same amount of money per week. You will also gain a good rapport with the people involved, might meet some contacts who could put you in touch with vacancies and you will have someone to give you a good reference on your CV should you apply for any related work.

Please be aware that when in receipt of a social welfare payment you must get prior approval for volunteering.

There must be some way around it. I started a ce scheme lookin after church grounds, graveyard and grounds of parochial house nearly 3 year ago when I was 26. Finished last July after two years but if priest had of had his way I'd have got another year as previous lads made good use of the chair in the tool shed! Speak to ur supervisor about it. I'm sure they could appeal to get you an extra year rather than have someone there that would rather be at home watching Jeremy Kyle!
