'Real' swing compared to practice swing

I've been having problems clearing my hips so I've been working on it in the back garden and, without a ball, it seems to be good - at the speed I'd hit on the course - when I video it.

However, when I try to do the same thing on the practice range, it's like I've some mental block or paralysis and I can't start the turn with my lower body, resulting in a reverse pivot at impact. Anyone experience the same and/or have any tips?

I've read that the issue of a real swing being different to a practice swing is that you get ball focused instead of target focused.

So with no ball your focus is on where you are swinging to and with a ball you swing at it rather than through it towards a target.

Try to focus on your target more and feel your energy moving towards that with the ball just happening to get in the way. Shawn Clement would talk about this being the cause of many ills in the swing
