Newly crowned PL champions welcome Liverpool to Stamford bridge in the second game on this weeks super Sunday. Liverpool will greet the champions with a deserved guard of honour, as Chelsea's campaign never looked in doubt during their title charge.

Liverpool need a win in this fixture to keep alive any hopes they might have of finishing in the top four, this coupled with relying on other teams results, It is really looking like a tall order.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last four PL visits to Stamford bridge W2 D1 L1. The Reds have managed seven clean sheets in their last nine PL games on their travels. Liverpools last PL win at the Bridge was back in 2011, Glen Johnson with a late winner on that occasion.

Mourinho's Chelsea is a different breed to that of the side Liverpool had beaten on three occasions back in 2010-2012. Chelseas first choice striker Diego Costa will miss the game but they still have a fantastic spine right down through the side, which includes Courtois, Terry, Matic, Fabregas and Hazard.

Liverpool will be without Flanagan, Sturridge, Sakho and Balotelli.

Does anybody care about this game? Chelsea have won the league and Liverpool won't make top 4. It's a nothing game, isn't it?

Sky will care theyve a package to sell.

If Utd drop pts it will keep Pools small hopes alive, Utd win and its an end of season dead rubber.

Doesn't one of the Chelsea posters have a sig that goes along the lines of "Even when the result is not important. The result is important"?

But, yes, if United do what they're fully capable of doing over the next three games the results of Liverpool games wont make any difference.

I care >< much. :( I hope Gerrard trips Terry as he passes through the guard of dishonour :pac:

Alas the Captain shall probably slip and the other captain follow in sympathy :D

Yes indeed Jose comment after a pre season friendly at Plough Lane against AFC Wimbledon last summer. 2-0 down with 15 minutes left we came back to win 2-3 Jose was fuming and that is what he said.

Besides we keep getting told that Jose really really really really wants the United job so he will be going all out to ensure if he does get it he will be playing CL football next season :pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac:

Easy win for Chelsea this, even if they have been on the piss all week.

Depends, Utd f**k up against Palace and Pool have it all to play for, wont make the game easy at all.

Can see this game going either way, tbh.

Depends how much Chelsea are up for it, I reckon.

2-0 Chelsea. JT to have his first poor game all season trying to play with a rotten hangover.

Even if utd lose/draw to Palace Liverpool won't win this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,591 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

Utd will almost definitely lose against Palace, sure Pardew is in charge there now.

And Liverpool will almost definitely win against Chelsea, sure Jose wants the Utd job and would prefer to see them not get and he loves doing Liverpool favours also.

Sky will likely have to change the name to Awesome Sunday after this weekend.

chelsea will win by 3 goals

I have higher expectations that this will be a good game after United managed to beat Palace. Nothing much for either team to play for now, so going to go 3-2 one way or the other.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

You know its a pretty meaningless game when this thread isnt busy :o

Joses last 10 games against pool reads, 8 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.

Cant see that 1 loss increasing today but entirely depends on Pool and how they approach it.

If they, like chelsea, think of it as an end of season, non-impprtant game itll be a poor game, probably a draw, if they push the intensity from the off they could catch us.

Hard to guess the Chelsea team but with the league done some fringe players might get a game but i think Jose will go strong as possible, only doubt is about who plays up top.

    Courtois
    Ivan Cahill JT Azp
    Cesc Matic
    Cuadrado Willian Hazard
    Drogba

Going with a draw.Pool to score first.

I care so little about this game I have to go to a kids bloody birthday party at 2 and I'm not even gonna bother sneaking off at 4 to watch it.

    This makes me sad.

If only Utd had of dropped points against Palace, It would've made todays game more interesting.

This game will entirely be a celebration game for Chelsea with almost nothing at stake for Liverpool who are almost certain to finish 5th now.

You only get one if you have supported Chelsea from the day the club was founded, 12 years ago.

One less game of hopefully ever seeing Mikel in a Chelsea jersey again is how I see it. Looking at Liverpool's line up, comfortable home win with Remy scoring to prove a point for last summer :D

In the press this week that Mourinho is dead against it (obviously) and will block all attempts for him to go to another EPL side.
That probably caused a rift between the two - hence he is dropped....
