This place baffles me. It seems to have stayed open for quite a while, but have never heard much good about it and passing by it always looks a bit dark and grimey.

There must be other places to get a steak lunch anyway. What about Zamora?

Not great at all bud. Wouldn't waste my money when you have so many good restaurants a few hundred yards away around Paul St.

This baffles me , I don't know - maybe I just don't get it. If I want to cook my own food I can do that at home. Along with the fact that 3 people I know managed to poison themselves (2 undercooked prawns , 1 the vein wasn't removed from the prawns)
Whatever about the owners the boardwalk used to do a decent steak. nowadays for a quick and handy steak , captain americas I guess. not where I'd go of an evening mind.

Soho reminds me of a really bad restaurant that you'd find caters to witless tourists on I-drive in Orlando. Except without the value. Or service.

To be fair it was good when it first opened, now though the service and food is nothing special.

Might give it a miss so. Market lane don't do steaks at lunch :( not a fan of soho either, not my crowd.

Any other spots? We usually go to electric but service hasn't been right for a while.

Ok Horgan you mean Soho, I was like what is he on about. Has it gone downhill then, it was before Christmas the last time we went in but it was fine then.. What a shame.. Sorry OP don't go there by the sounds of it - it wasn't a spot for me either but upstairs is different..

I am stuck I wouldn't have a clue where to advise.. Such a shame Cork seems to be loosing a few good restaurants lately. Not as in closing but regarding the way they are run..

I used to love scoozis as a basic place but the last two times I was a big let down
Another friend used to love going to silver springs and she said this has gone to pot too
Not Soho steak is gone.. woe woe

Nosta was nice but haven't been there in a while also so maybe others could advise if it is still good

Well there is a relatively new spot, reviews are excellent its on my list for being the next place im going to try.

Only prob is not open till 4 on saturday, but it would potentially be worth the wait.

Been to Elbow Lane a few times, great spot. I think we might try to push the lunch to 4pm and just go back there.

Seems to be a shortage of spots for lunch alright, evening does seem to have more choices

That's mad now that there isn't more. The silver quay steak actually was very good (or the restaurant there), service and all else on the menu especially the lasagne is rubbish but steak is nice

Elbow lane has the best steak in the city at the moment I think. But opens at 4.

Tbh, steak is such a heavy meal, I don't think of it as a lunch item at all.

N-square is/was very unpleasant the one time I was there. Poor quality food. Steak was yellow-pack quality. No age on it, not hung properly, and badly cooked.

Gallagher's might be someplace for you? It's a steak sandwich they do, but it's very good.

We're aiming for a long lunch with a fair bit of wine so pushing to 4pm might trust work :)

Steak sandwich or the salad version at Liberty Grill are also amazing! Not quite a steak in the traditional sense, but well worth it if it's more flavour than decadence.

Surprised how hard it is to get a lunchtime steak!

Liberty might leave the sandwhich part and give us a steak.

The Cornstore does amazing steak. I can't rate it highly enough. All their meat comes from their own farm too.

Call to the english market and get a few nice rib eyes, into tescos for a few cheap bottles of wine, a disposable bbq and a few portions of wedges off the hot counter and into the peace park for a bbq?

Seriously tho, whod have thought a steak would be so hard to get in a city?
If moving outside the city is an option ye might have a lot more choice? Is everyone gonna have a drink?
Ive never eaten there but the Thady Inn on the macroom rd is supposed to have the best steak around. Its about a 25min drive from the city. I hear they only have 2 options tho, steak or steak!

Ha I like the park idea! All drinking so driving is out. We may well end up in the park at this rate!

Last time I went to the corn store I had the worst dining experience of my life, ordered a Chateubriand, arrived overcooked, tough as boots accompanied by very poor service. We had to leave the food half eaten, pay and leave. So we don't go there anymore. Real pity as I like the idea of the meat coming from their own farm.

    Options so are
Elbow lane for a late lunch
Peace park with a bag of cans and €2 BBQ
Somewhere else and persuade them to cook a steak
