Can Mike get back on track and get the win.Should be some fight.Winner to face Deontay Wilder for the WBC title.Mike seems to be putting in the effort for this one and looks in better shape.

Doing his Rocky style training here in Cork.

    Think Povetkin stops him.

If by some miracle Perez turns up in shape, Povetkin wins by decision.

My brother is in the gym where Perez is doing his conditioning work. He'll be in significantly better shape if what I'm hearing is true. Whether that'll be enough to hang with Povetkin or not is another story.

This should make for a great heavyweight bout. Both fellas move well for heavyweights and have decent skill.
Mike should have had enough time to get over the Mago incident hopefully.

Call me cynical, but I won't believe that until I see the weigh in.

I have to agree with this. That being said if he turns up in shape and motivated I think he can win this. Should make for a very good fight.

Never thought it would happen myself but it looks like Perez has got his act together in terms of conditioning in the last 5-6 months, Robert Garcia has been a good fit for him.

He looks alot lighter on his feet. Povetkin will still be a very stern test but really looking forward to this fight, think it will be very competitive

Looks to be in better shape. Hope it's reflected in his performance.

^^Dreaming of a fight between himself and Chakhkiev in the near future

His power is insane. Beterviev could move up and fight him in the future, you have Usyk coming up also. There's a golden age of Eastern Euros coming up in the heavier divisions.

What ever happened to the other 2 Cubans who came over to Cork, Alexei Acosta and Luis Garcia?

Garcia looked really good, lost out on a Cuban Olympic place in 2008 to Emilio Correa, even though Garcia beat him twice. Resoundingly the second time before the selection process was made.

id love to see mike win ,ever since that fight with Abdusalamov you can tell something was nt right ,i really rate this guy,but i thought he was training with david hayes ex trainer ?

I'm hearing this alot in the media but didn't really see any evidence of it when he fought Jennings. That fight he lost purely down to his fitness.

    And the referee's fcuk up.

Might be no harm in Perez's case. Garcia's fighters are rarely in good shape.

Povetkin is 2/9 and Perez is 3/1 with Paddy Power.Hopefully Mike can pull out the performance he had against Mago.

Actually don't think he looks in bad shape going on previous showings

Tough fight though, going into Povetkins back yard. Who himself has bounced back brilliantly after the Wlad fight

Yep on boxnation from 5:30pm. It costs 15 quid and a once off fee of a tenner. If you're anyway into your boxing its a worthwhile investment.

    Thanks fellas

8/1 for the Perez DeGale double. Get on it. Flanna doesn't know nothing.

Undercard is on now. Charr just dominated Leipei.

The massive punching Russian on next. Shouldn't last long.

    Hope Povetkin sparks Perez tbh.

Lepai was seriously out of shape.

Kudryashov has done very little in the first 4

Not a chance. She wants to go to the f*cking ballet on Sunday and Perez will cover the tickets when he does the business.

He is not living up to his hype tonight anyway

Sick body shot. Tell you what though, the top lads will have nothing to be scared of looking at tonight's performance.

This guy the russian Buffer? :p

Pretty disappointing card so far...Charr dominated, Kudryashov was terrible but still got the stoppage...really is a terrible fighter outside his power. Chakhkiev fought well and got his stoppage by a superb liver shot... Drozd unsurprisingly dominated, big big fan of his, pity Wlodarczyk got injured but impressive nonetheless

Some light show for the entrances. :P

Its the heavyweight division guys. When they hit this hard, it can only take a few seconds.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,428 ✭✭✭Talib Fiasco

Said it before and I'll say it again, Povetkin is twice the fighter now than he was against Wlad...nevertheless never expected that. Hard luck Mike...that could be curtains for him now in terms of getting a title shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,750 ✭✭✭ASOT

And he just walks off out of the arena before the annoucement, shocking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 842 ✭✭✭rebelomar

Sad to see Mike go out like that.... You get out what you put in I suppose and Mike just doesn't put enough in.

Constantly changing trainers isn't good either obviously

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 356 ✭✭Diddley Squat

disappointing fight , feeling the pain for Perez

I would have liked to see Povetkin tested.
We didn't learn anything about Povetkin tonight , he landed a great first shot but it was enough.

Whether this is true or not, has absolutely nothing to do with what we just saw. He got caught with a massive shot. It happens.

What ever happened to the other 2 Cubans who came over to Cork, Alexei Acosta and Luis Garcia?...

Few years ago he was very fond of an afternoon in Paddy Power. Also fond of night clubs etc.
