    Hey everyone,

I suspect i have a gas leak or some issue with usage.

I have received a number of really high gas bills over the past year and have considerably low usage. I live alone and the heat is on for two to three hours a day MAX (more often two than three).

I managed to gain access to my meter today and read it at 1298,629m3, while i was there it was moving even though I thought had no heat on at the time, ah ha i though, gas leak but then I realised the timer had kicked in. I ran straight back up stairs and switched it off, came immediately down stairs and re read it at 1298,641m3.

My question is, is it normal for a boiler running two rads and a water heater to tick over 1.2m3 in literally the space of 2.5minutes?

I took a recording of the meter moving and its frightening how fast its going :(

I think its a reasonably modern baxi boiler i have, heats water and rads. annoyingly it doesn't give you the option to heat just water.

Does the gas meter move with the gas boiler switched off ??
    First and foremost,
If you suspect that you have a gas leak turn off the supply at the valve at the meter and call
    Gas Networks 1850 20 50 50.
They will send someone around within the hour to check your gas supply.
There is no charge for this service and they will check to ensure that your supply of gas is safe.

Call a real rgi op to check your installation.

Most gas bills are estimated, then occasionaly they get read and your billing is brought up to date.
Check your bills to see if the meter readings are "estimated" or "read".

The difference between the two readings is 0.012 m3, which is not a high figure if your timing is near correct.

A good RGI can check the consumption of your gas against the heat rating of the appliance to ensure that it is using the correct volume of Gas when it's running.
