My sister in law is marrying a Dutch guy, and I am doing the music.

Does anyone know the names of any Dutch songs played at weddings / 70s or 80s songs?

Hi OP, I asked someone as well for you, a dutch friend. Her response:
Hi that's a good question! I've been thinking about it but I have to say that Dutch culture is rather pathetic in this respect (as in many other respects!).. But I think he should consider singing or playing the 'long shall they live' song that is also sung at birthdays (only at birthdays, very imaginatively, with the lyrics 'long shall he/she live'). Apparently they do this quite often at weddings (I googled it, in some regions it's a standard thing, sometimes even to open the evening party). Usually it is followed by 'zij leve hoog...' as you see in the clip below. (they will live high. Whatever that may mean!)

So it's not really classy music, better for when it's time to party ;) It's certainly not sung at every wedding but if there are Dutch guests then they are bound to know the song and will likely sing along. It's a rather cheesy song but I think if you are abroad and you don't expect it you would appreciate it (maybe because of it's cheesiness).

It's important not to use the birthday version (lang zal ze leven) but instead use the plural version (lang zullen ze leven) because then it's a song sung for a pair.

There's actually a karaoke version of the plural version online at youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9x-LEawoM6c&index=5&list=PLIgTbtUTpGQRIsPRYu2miYgLR3o_iOvVI

Is your sister-in-law named Sylvia, by any chance?

She just got back to me with more! The dutch 'polonaise' sounds like our conga?

I just realized, for later in the evening (people have to be a bit drunk by then) they often do a 'Polonaise'. This is actually embarrassing to admit, it's basically walking behind each other in a long line and then through the whole venue with as many participants as possible. See, for instance, the clip below. This is a Polonaise on the very well known song of Guus Meeuwis ''t Dondert en t bliksemt'. Which they usually play from a cd rather than perform live.

Actually I was at a wedding last weekend where we also did a Polonaise on this song. But it might work best if there are quite some Dutchies. Or if you have a similar tradition.

Focus! Great! I'd love to play Focus Pocus for the laugh factor!
    Not Sylvia, but nice one.
