Thats still €330 a year for TV. Better than UPC's €480 a year for sure but I know so many people cancelling TV now and getting a SmartTV box for €100-€150 all in which has absolutely anything and everything you could ask for TV/Movie wise. €330 a year for mostly crap TV channels is not a bargain imo.

yeah but those boxes are just using illegal streams - might as well complain about people buying a bike when you can just steal one off the street.

Expect these posts to be deleted. Any mention of illegal Sky is a big no no here.

Ooops I was told the boxes are not illegal but if people are putting illegal streams it is they who are breaking the law. Anyway my point is still valid there are the smarttv boxes and freesat where you can get nearly all the Irish/Uk channels Sky and UPC offer, legally and for a one off price that is a fraction of their yearly price. Skys price is good but UPC have been ripping people off with price hike after price hike over the last 2 years. €500 odd quid a year for basic TV channels is madness.

I reckon only the main box is recordable. The multiroom one will be HD but won't have Sky+.

This is pretty expensive relative to recent Sky promotions

Sky have done 2 Groupon deals and a carphone warehouse deal in the last year to 18 months where the all products were half price. So it was about €18 for the variety package and €18 for sport all in HD

You can always ring Sky directly and get the same deal without bothering with Groupon / CPW

Its kinda like the Limewire debate its legal but illegally used as its main use.

UPC is a rip off used to be great value, but I suppose they did upgrade a lot of there services. More so what I would call bringing it into the real world where these services are available. Still a rip off.

Normal TV is muck, buy a dish and a decoder go free view, once off fee, most of the channels available. For the rest use online services as in Netflix, online players, buy a VPN so you can change country and move around the players/country's online.

Wrong thread most probably but was looking to get rid of UPC for telly, phone and BB.

How much does it truly cost (once off correct?) to replace it with a recordable box that prob points to a dish and aerial so as to get all the channels (with HD)?, some lad mentioned getting a "Walker" box. Anybody here any experience doing what I've just mentioned?

Will use 4G phone for wifi.

You need to go here... http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=40
You don't get exactly the same thing (debate it on the other forums) . But for many it will good enough.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

This Sky is about the same as the UPC TV deal is, when you consider HD etc. Less tuners but a more reliable box. With UPC you don't pay for the box, with Sky if it breaks you do. Do sky install a dish and everything with this offer?

You should be looking for your Sky sub to go down once you're out of contract, not stay the same

The box itself is not illegal but configuring it to receive content you haven't paid for is. If someone preconfigures the box for all sky and 'anything and everything' then you are receiving this illegally, regardless of what they tell you.

If you think about it why would anyone pay a subscription if a cheap one off payment was legit.

Freesat is legit, cheap and gives you most of the UK channels but not the skys etc. IMO most of them are rubbish and synchronize adds every couple of minutes so I'm happy with my freesat box.

Shur the fella in the sky booth in Liffey valley told me that Vodafone don't really do fibre at all, there's a 4g sim card inside the fibre modem and that's how it's more than 24mb.

I wouldn't mind only sky and Vodafone use the same eircom lines so if you move from Vodafone fiber to sky fiber you would actually get the exact same speeds!

Is there link fir this or is the deal only offered over the phone?

I can only see a 12 month contact at €28.50 per month and there is no mention of multiroom.

I asked a sky rep today about this offer and he claimed he knew nothing about it. Can anyone confirm they have got this deal.

I was only offered six months but the rep never mentioned the multi room. The Broadband that was available to me, hadn't a patch on upc so I declined.

Its not stealing its somebody streaming their service on a internet streaming device so they can watch it away from home they are sharing the link to it .Are you commiting a crime watching a match in a pub or going over to a friends house to watch their tv.

The spectrum being sold off is doing you a favour. MMDS from UPC is an absolute disgrace and a rip off.
