Peugeot 208 production car makes 168MPG Imperial gallon or 117.5 mpg USA gallon in test circuit in 38 hours over 1337 miles equals an average speed of 35MPH

I know i am tight skin flint and drive at 45 to 50 MPH to get better fuel economy but 35 MPH that is is too much you fall asleep from that

Typical the French to annoy us with these useless numbers .

Also they dont tell us if the car was doing the coasting system where car revs upwards to faster speed like 50MPH switches off engine or go into neutral and coast back down to 20MPH .

The article doesn't mention the average speed or liter/100 kiloenter so you have to calculate it all out

Also it done in USA gallons so If you want the MPG in Imperial UK/IRL gallons you have to figure it out and it is about 7.95 gal imperial and approx 168 MPG assuming it is all standard British miles

it looks like Peugeot just want the sales figure headlines 168 MPG car when its probably more like the run of the mill 80MPG diesel car at 90KPH if you drive steady or on cruise control and dont use the right foot much

I rented a 208 1.2l last weekend in the UK.

It wasn't great. 3 cyl. engine is a bit noisy & lacks lineal power and torque. Gearbox is grim. Clutch bite was set right at the very top of the pedal travel.

I was glad to hand it back.
