    Hi Guys,

Does anyone know is there a definitive list of 5 seat commercials available? I saw a 5 seat commercial kuga, could that be correct?

    Thanks

As far as I know the Kuga Commercial is a 4 seater, but a lot of others such as the Land Rover Discovery and Toyota Landcrusier come as 5 seater commericals or 'Business Editions'.

There are many "Crew-Cabs" now, but bear in mind by the letter of the tax law you are only permitted to carry employees as passengers and must sign a declaration in the tax office to this before they issue a commercial tax disc.

AFAIK There was also a thread here recently saying that some luxury SUV's (ML's X5's) were illegally converted and signed off as crew-cab commercials as they didn't have the correct boot opening area.

as far as I am aware (aside from pick ups etc) in 5 seater jeep format the list is

    - Land rover discovery
    - Toyota Landcruiser
    - Mitsubishi Pajero
    - Jeep Cherokee

As mentioned above, Kuga is a 4 seater. Anything else is flouting the legislation as far as I am aware

Are you looking for brand new or second hand?

It really depends on pricing, Ideally some sort of a pcp type deal would be best as we will only want to run the jeep for a max of 3 years then move on to a newer one.

    Thanks

You missed the gorgeous SSSSSNANNANANGGGYONNNGG Rexton 5 Seat Utility as well.

Disco is the most expensive. LandCruiser next and Pajero after that. No idea what the Cherokee goes for. Pajero is much cheaper than the other 2 so probably the cheapest on PCP if available.

Apparently stock of the LandCruiser Business is fairly plentiful. Disco is usually factory order, and about to go up to around €59,000.

theres some dealer bringing in a few HSE ones as N1 for 86k inc vat.

I would highly recommend the HSE version for pure deadliness.

    New Toureg business edition too.

    This? http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/volkswagen/touareg/used-2015-152-volkswagen-touareg-3-0v-laois-fpa-200914373953810840

Would the €51,937 price be VAT inclusive or not? I'm guessing not but you never know :o

What would something like this typically cost on a PCP or lease plan? I gues if bought outright on standard finance you'd be paying €52,000 + (lets say 6%) back over 5 years = about €1,000 per month. Correct?

It states in the advert description that it is €51,937 + VAT.

yes you do - or if you're not you pay the full price & have to tax it based on co2, not the €333 commercial rate

    No.

If you are VAT registered, you can put it through the books and you wont need to pay the VAT.

If you are a sole-trader/company owner with a turnover of less than €30k ish, (I dont know the exact figure) such as a part-time farmer you cannot get a VAT number from Revenue so you must pay the full VAT, but considering the price of this car you will definitely fall into that VAT number category if you put it through the books!

Bottom line is if you are buying it privately you must pay the VAT. If you are a part-time trader/farmer, you are eligible to tax it at the commercial rate as it will be used for commercial use. A further complication here is that a crew-cab has been given concession of being permitted to be taxed class as commercial ONLY with the sole purpose of transporting employees, NOT for social/domestic family transport. You have to sign a declaration of same

But this being Ireland, moral or not, its not policed and everyone gets away with it.

So what is the situation with Insurance? If a 4/5 seat crew cab is company owned and is technically only allowed to carry employees (and presumably customers or others who may be related to the trade of the business e.g. carrying a quantity surveyor or engineer who isn't an employee) what is the story with insurance if there is an accident and family members are being carried? I assume the company can pay for comprehensive insurance and all passengers are covered regardless of whether they are "tax compliant" passengers or not?

Insurance should be no problem as long as they know its a crew-cab and the policy specifies for social/domestic/pleasure.

The problem is if you are caught driving it under the wrong tax class which is a revenue offence (fraud) rather than a motoring offense. All it would take is a young Garda to spot the offence who is trying to earn their stripes and follow it through. The odds of getting caught is extremely slim, is it worth the risk?

Well, if you own a small company in which your wife is a shareholder/director and your 15 year old son is part time employed (on a PAYE basis) to do some admin I'd say you'd be able to put up a decent argument :P
