VW Golf 7 Navigation System

Anyone here familiar with downloading and installing VW navigation system for Golf Mk. 7?

I find the manual and the web site www.volkswagen.com rather confusing, more than likely due to my lack of knowledge in this area.

Is there a specific type of memory card required in order to download and install the software? It is suggested that not all memory cards are compatible with the system.

There seems to be many options available via the website etc. - does anyone here have any idea of the cost of a basic navigation system for the Golf?

    Thanks.

The basic one when new is about 5-600 depending on emissions. Are you on about fitting it to an existing car without it?

There is provision in the car for such a system, it appears that it is a question of downloading and installing the software - not sure if this answers your question?

Do you have a button at the top right of the screen that says "Nav" or does it say "Setup"?

If it says Nav there should be a memory card with the car that you put into your he of the SD slots in the glovebox. If it says Setup then the car doesn't have factory Nav.

The cars are locked down and I don't think anyone in Ireland has figured it out yet. There are hacked ones starting to show on eBay though but they're not cheap.

It says Setup - there was no memory card with the car, it needs to be purchased, downloaded and installed.

Not sure what you mean by 'The cars are locked down........' I am looking at the possiblity of buying the navigation software at the moment.

If you don't have the Nav Unit factory fitted to your car (either the Discover Media or the larger "Pro" version) then you are out of luck.
I read somewhere that VW dealers have recently gotten a NAV retrofit kit (Garmin) that will work with the regular non-Nav radio units. It's a dealer-fit job but not particularly cheap either - €5-600 I think.

The software won't work on your car. It doesn't have sat Nav installed so there is no GPS receiver etc in the car.

Newer VWs have a thing called component protection meaning it isn't possible to buy a sat Nav system for the car and install it. There are other options - aftermarket boxes can he installed to add functionality or a complete aftermarket head unit is another option.

Some info here on an official NAV upgrade that the dealers can now offer: http://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/8504-official-sat-nav-retro-fit-for-mk7/
