    Snap:(

I am trying to take the neighbours looking to get clear into account also. Afaik, if there is a reactor next door to then then they could face further restrictions.

Just heard of more herds gone down to the west of us too.

I better ring the dept after dinner and see what the story is.

is there anything that is spreading the virus? deer or badgers? going by your posts in the past, I would guess that your farm/fences are in good order so breaking out wouldn't be an issue.

    Badgers.

They cleared out a sett bounding between myself and a neighbour gone down as well but haven't heard back on postmortems on those yet.

Seeing as there is no written agreement, do you reckon they might think that you are trying for squatters rights? I imagine they wouldn't have trawled through the bank accounts to try to identify your payment.

I'd say the best thing to do is head over and have a quiet word with him, explain how you have it for this year as it's gone in for the premium so it's worth fairly little to anyone else at this stage and ,if they still want you gone, you will pull out later in the year.

Alternately, you might be willing to sign a written lease if they were looking for one?
Don't think squatter rights is the problem. OH did ask the executor what the problem was and he basically told him that it was an internal family matter and to mind his own business. We are presuming that it has something to do with the Will but don't know. OH told the executor that we had applied for the land for this year and he said that it was not a problem but under the "circumstances" preferred if we didn't graze it
Thankfully we didn't spread fertiliser/slurry on it. It is rough grazing ground but located close to us.

Agree with your sentiment about her been slaughtered so close to calving.

Cows that have 90% or more of their gestation term up are legally not supposed to be transported, nor are they if calved less than a week. There is an allowance if emergency veterinary treatment is required but only if a vet gives the go ahead.

I was thinking the same thing myself, maybe whoever got the land doesn't want to be seen as getting an income from it
We have not paid any money for it this year.

Conundrum this morning. Guy arrived from the dept to see if we want badgers trapped on our land. We do have badgers here but as we passed the test, my thoughts would be that they are healthy enough ones.
However the ones that are on the upper land we have, use a sett that is between our field and a neighbours- he went down with TB.

they can travel up to 5km at night. don't know how big your holding is....
dad often saw them fighting at home, he said they must have been crossing paths.

22ha, but split with a mile between them. The thing is we've had so many cases of TB around us, would we be fools for getting rid of the ones that are here and apparently healthy. Still haven't decided, he's having tay next to me :D

    Not far wrong !!

I can't complain, I actually spend more than half time out on the road.
Bring the bike in the boot so if I'm close to a forest and I'm able I'll have a cycle or a walk.

Well the dept lad was a bit grey round the edges alright...

Left the badgers be, there wasn't a huge amount of sett activity but we have his number in case we see any looking a little 'odd' in the area.

    It's all a bit loose.
We would have badgers between ourselves and neighbours. When the area was a blackspot it didn't seem to make any difference.
And then I read somewhere that if you cull out healthy badgers they may be replaced by badgers with TB and being a problem to your farm.

Then others will say there is no absolute proof that the TB is passed to cattle from badgers.

My grandfather spread dung from a few cows with a grape/sprong using a horse and slipe and I'm told always had time to talk to everyone he lnew. Cows outwintered and brought in and milked by hand
No telly or phome as not invented but by all accounts had all he wanted

My father spred dung from a few more cows using tractor, loader and dung spreader. Cows wintered in tie up byre and cleaned out using wheelbarrow and shovel. Cows also milked in byre. Would of had time to talk some of the neighbours. Had house phone, telly and most of his wants

At the moment I'm spreading dairy washings from 5 times the cows my father had with 4wd tractor and tank. Modern set up for all. Don't see many neighbours about. While waiting for load to fill I read from my mobile phone what people I don't actually know are doing (such as discussing badger cull with dept. men etc etc). Definitely don't have what I want or need, but am reasonably contented.

Not sure if it progress

I finally tracked the AO dealing with the 2TB reactors we have down this morning and discussed our 'options'.

    None!

If we keep any reactor cow then we will be delaying any retests and any chance of being clear by winter ourselves and also delay our neighbours getting clear to sell.

Also, if we keep a reactor then we could be deemed to have contributed to any further breakdowns in the herd and could lose out on a percentage of any reactor compensation due.

So the 2 girls are off on Sunday morning around 6 so i must find someone to have them in the crush because we will be away for a few days.

And just heard of a breakdown to the west of us at the other side of the original breakdown so it looks like this one is going to run for a while:(

I would ask to speak to a vet! Some of that doesn't ring true but people and rules do vary around the country.
