We booked our wedding hotel a few months ago and arranged for a stay in the hotel on the evening of our tasting. We assumed this would be a weekend. When we recently went to book our tasting we were informed that the tasting only takes place on Tuesday!. Has anybody heard of this happening before?

We had ours on a Friday, but it was at 4pm because they had a wedding that evening. Haven't heard of it being set for a specific day only.

I can only imagine they do it as it is a quiet day at the hotel. I would think though that unless they mentioned it to you before to mention this to them

Our hotel usually only does tastings midweek also but they are making an exception for us. We live in dublin and the hotel is in kerry.

I am not quite sure why you would have assumed that this would be at a weekend OP, i.e. when a hotel will usually be at it's busiest.

Our hotel only did them on set days, with 4 or 5 couples all present.
As others said, makes no sense to do it on weekend when they would have weddings etc.

Had mine recently and it was on a Saturday evening at 5 o'clock in the hotel's main restaurant. Think there were 3 or 4 other couples having their's also.

Got a special rate for b and b for the night too, and we said we'd make a day and night of it, hitting the leisure centre etc... And on arrival we found out we had been upgraded to a suite. It was great, and a nice little time away from the hectic of everyday life and wedding planning

In fairness unless they tell you specifically at the time that tasters would be not at the weekend, I don't see why the OP should know...

If you don't work in the business then you can hardly be expected to know how they run

Our hotel politely requested that we have ours on a Tuesday or Wednesday so their chefs could devote appropriate attention.

Consult your contract. Our said tasting was complimentary with a night's stay Sun - Thurs. We went on a Sunday evening and took a half day off work on Monday morning.
I think a single day like Tuesday is quite restrictive and unaccommodating and unless their brochure or your contract specifically states this, I'd stand my ground on at least the choice of other mid-week days.

    I don't have a contract, should I have one??
Our tasting was held on a Saturday in teh off season and it was for all couples plus their parents, actually it was really busy.

Course you should..If you are going with the company yes indeed otherwise you have nothing. Also if you have paid a deposit you should have a receipt or some paper work saying this. It would be fairly standard sticky

contract wasn't mentioned with the hotel. I have one with my photographer!!

With all the threads now and especially the 2015 brides one me thinks it is a given you should have contracts for everything like this...

Definitely, I personally wouldn't hand over a cent of a deposit until I had the full terms and conditions, both the general ones and those specific to my agreed package, in writing.

Obviously wedding reception costs vary depending on individual circumstances, but I imagine for most people that the reception is usually the largest single item cost in a wedding

Have that and had it before transferring deposit. Just didn't sign a contract though
