Looking at a few scan tools online.

I want to spend €100 max and was hoping to get some recommendations.

At the moment I have one of the cheap ELM327 scan tools with Torque app on the phone. Thanks.

Do you need it for a single car or multiple uses?

Ideally multiple cars but I assume this means a more expensive scan tool.

My current scan tool worked OK on my '07 Kia and the OH's '02 Clio. However, using it on my friends 2000 Nissan Primera put it into limp mode. Wouldn't start :(

To be honest lad the Torque app is actually more in depth and easier to use then most of the sub hundred quid scan tools. I use the torque app myself at home, I have Snap On diagnostic in the garage if I need further detail but honestly for reading codes, clearing them and limited live data you won't better what you currently have.

On another note Im interested to know how it put a Primera into limp mode...

Me too. Scan tool didn't even connect to Torque. After disconnecting engine management light came on dash and it would only turn over, no ignition.

Maybe that year Nissan isn't OBDII compliant?

I think you need a unique Nissan only reader for them. Using a generic reader can give problems alright.

Nissan Data Scan seems to be the software to use. Different protocols needed depending on what year car you're trying to read codes from.

Looks like there is Nissan scan app software available on Google Store.

Wonder if this would work using the phone? The 2000 Primera definitely has an OBDII connector.

    Edit: NDSII for cars 2001 - 2007
