My immersion heater trips the electrics in the house but only when turning off.
i don't really use it much only now as not using the oil at moment, it turns on ok and warms up water but as soon as i turn it off it trips, one thing i have done recently is to change the switch from sink to bath which i have not done before.
(not sure if this should but in electrics or plumbing forum). thks

Sounds like your switch may have become faulty. I assume its the RCD that tripping?

I will switch it back to sink and see what happens.

Set it to sink but tripped as soon as i put it on, use to only happen on off.

Could be either switch or immersion. I would now be leaning towards immersion, but it would need to be investigated with a multimeter. Probably best job for an electricion, but a knowledgable plumber would be able to check it out and replace immersion if that's needed.

Are the on/off and bath/sink labels still readable, or completely worn off?

Anyway its likely the element itself has an earth fault in it.
