Where do you Draw the Line with Equality?

Equality is important in the areas of pay, jobs, education, opportunities stuff like that. But how far will equality go?

If a person works hard and smart their whole life and ends up very rich because of it, should the government take away their money and give it to poor people because poor people feel less well off in society in comparison to the rich person. If some people do really well in life isn't that their business?

In the future will everybody have to be paid the same amount, live in the same accommodation (a big set of concrete flats) drive the same crappy car, doesn't forced equality take away our freedom?

    That's not equality that's communism.

I believe in higher taxes for high earners.

A country should support those less fortunate, but shouldn't enable a life living off handouts either, unless someone is genuinely unable to work (illness/disability etc).

I think you are confusing equal human rights with communism?

Equality = equal opportunities (doesn't mean everyone will avail of them)

Communism = equal stuff regardless (you have no choice in this)

    Hope this clears things up

Equality for me means that even people incapable of constructed an argument without relying on strawmen, false comparisons and emotive populist soapboxing should be allowed to have internet connections.

I draw the line at taking these people seriously however.

That's actually a fairly limited definition of equality.

You might mean "equality of opportunity".

    Are you sure about that?

You're over on the Elections & Referendums forum asking basically the same question. Can you not pick one forum and be dine with it? Or do you just think After Hours is a bit more conservative

Your bigoted and homophobic views aren't welcome in modern Ireland, let alone After Hours.

People will never be equal. There will always be something that favours one group over another.

For you equality must also mean attacking people for their opinions

There will be no attacks on valid opinions.

This is a warning to stop with the agenda pushing.

If you want to discuss marriage equality, do it in the referendum thread. And don't bother trying to deny that's what you're doing. If you start any more threads like this I will remove your access.
