Commercial policies generally do not extend cover to drive passenger vehicles but the only ones who can answer this correctly is your insurance company.

There is no commercial insurance company in Ireland that allows you to drive a private car under your commercial policy.

I rang everyone this week for my renewal and the best you can get is Arran Insurance in Harold's Cross as their underwriters allow the driving of other commercial vehicles (under 3500kg in my particular case).

I'm a named driver on another van that I drive so that's no problem. I'm guessing I'd be insured on cars insured with open driving but after that nothing

Yes. Cars with open drive are fine. Asking as you fall within the insurers age range, normally 25-65 with full licence. But best to double check first.
