Newly installed Sky not receiving signal

    Hi

I got Sky installed in two rooms of my house less than 2 weeks ago - several of the channels don't work (the message says the box isn't getting a satellite signal). The channels are the likes of Channel 4 and Syfy. It's not all channels but a fair few.

I heard that if Sky can't fix the problem over the phone it will cost me €100 to get an engineer out?? Is this correct in the case when the satellite dish is only newly installed? Going to call Sky tomorrow but want to ensure I know what the situation is before getting onto them. Would a 30 day guarentee apply in this case?

    Thanks.

The first thing to try is to pull out the plug for the sky box, pull the plug on the multi-room box first then pull the plug out of the socket for the main box(do not turn it off with remote or power button first, pull the plug while it's on). Wait a few minutes then plug the main box back in and wait a few more minutes as the box boots up before you press the power button on the box. It should start up within a few minutes and might be "fixed".

As a new customer you are in contract so sky are responsible for making sure you can get their services so any call out if required within the 1st year should cost you nothing.

You've a 12 month warranty on the equipment. Have a look and see did the engineer leave a sticker on the remote or the box with their number on it. Contact them directly as they can drop out to you and fix it.

There will be no charge to get an engineer out so soon after the installation.

Ring Sky and let them sort it out, if it cannot be done over the phone they will send an 'engineer' out.

Thanks all for the replies, I called Sky and they did some troubleshooting with me, none of which worked, so they're sending out an engineer this week to have a look :) They said as the engineer had only been out recently to set up, it will be free of charge.

    I don't think so.

    Why's that?

One year warranty with all new installs.....unless you know something I don't.

Indeed but i would be going for up to three years for anything not caused by wind moving the dish as anything less could be seen as not fit for purpose and definitely not reasonably durable!
