New stove first light

    Hi
Just started my first burn on a new multi burner stove and I had a couple of questions.

I got a smell (which I expected) and the house has a haze of smoke or something.

Is this normal and will it clear the more I use it?
Im trying to get it ready for the winter.

Could it be that I closed the top vent to soon (about a half hour after lighting)

    Hi,

Most stoves will have a smell for the first few fires.
If it continues past 4/5 fires then it more than likely is not the stove.
Did you use a qualified fitter? Preferably with a Hetas qualification.
Did they use rock wool or heat resistant silicone? If yes these are what could be smelling and would need to be changed.
There is a special ceramic fibre insulation on the market now for stoves which should be used instead of rock wool.

Yeh used a registered installer. A number of friends told me they had the same problem for 3-4 first burns then it settled down.
    Hopefully that's all it is.

It depends on the stove, but on many the top vent is to stay open almost all the time as it works as an airwash over the glass to keep it clean, and keep a minimum amount of air getting to the fire.

The bottom vent is generally used to control the rate of burn, so people tend to open and close that vent.

As i said this varies from stove to stove, but i have encountered quite a few where the top vent stays open almost all the time.
