Who remembers the dance hall era

My daughter has just started going to the odd disco. one day I asked her did she get any dances. She had no idea what I was talking about and laughed about it for a week after I explained.
It just goes to show how far behind the times I am.
Bring back the dance halls I say where the lad would come over and ask you to dance.
But not so good for the lad when he would get refused in front of everybody

Take your baby by the hand
And make her do a high handstand
And take your baby by the heel
And do the next thing that you feel

I remember cycling 14 miles to the dances on a Sunday night.

You were lucky, there were 14 of us on a Massey 35x. With no cab. Or diesel.

We didn't need a massey or diesel we thumbed it every sunday night

That was the thing too that the young wans haven't a clue about, there was no going out on a Saturday night, dances were all Friday and Sunday. It's not that many years ago that discos had to close the bar at midnight on a Saturday. Those were the days, 12.15, guards come in, shutters shoot down, pints of Smithwicks, bottles of Stag and sausage suppers flying everywhere.
