hi lads, looking to pull the trigger on a gshock...undecided between the analogue/digitals and the pure digitals...I like both but i'd like to get some owner experience. I'm edging towards the analogues a bit more as I think they look quite nice and don't think i'd actually need or use the features of some of the better digitals (tide, moon???) What is the build quality of the analogues like? Are they cheap and nasty by analogue standards and as such if you want a gshock, are you better off sticking with what casio do best, i.e. digital??

    cheers....

FWIW M a mate of mine who isn't into watches has a collection of about 5 G-shocks. He is rough on any sort of equipment, by virtue of his trade and nature. His phone and laptop look like they've been drop kicked by the Irish rugby squad. Twice. He swears by the G's. All but one of them are of the analogue variety. The reason he has five is that 1) he kills the straps and didn't realise he could get replacements(I'm his watch nerd mate and he didn't think of asking. I love him to bits, but he can be a slow bastard :D) and 2) a couple of girlfriends have bought him one as presents. To be fair, he likely didn't ask me as when enquiring further he doesn't really see them as "watches", the kind that I might sport, he sees them as tools. They just work as he put it. In short if it they survive my mate, they'll survive the next mass extinction(as will he :D). Go for the one you like the look of basically.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Cheers as ever wibbs...only issue I have with the analogues is that unless you go for the very expensive ones, they don't seem to do anything that differently apart from looking different..at least with the digi There's a bit of variance...

    All Other opinions welcome!

I wouldn't be a big watch afficionado, but I've had a G-shock that has both analogue and digital displays on it for seven years now, and it's a bomb proof watch. Apart from replacing the strap once, and a couple of battey changes, nothing has ever gone wrong with this watch.

Through work and hobbies my watch has been banged, dropped, submersed in water, splashed with God knows how many paints, glues, oils etc., been exposed to extremes to high heat on many occasions, yet still has never missed a beat. Sometimes I try to lose it, just so I can buy a new one, but I'd hate to be without it now!!

I'd be interested in what people like in terms of g shocks so feel free to link to either what you have or what you'd like or think is a nice piece!

I'd go for an all digital one... I can't seem to take g shocks seriously in analogue form. I had an all digital g shock before with moon tide graphs etc. Its nice but since I have girly wrists I sold it to a friend.

The €100 mark analogue ones don't really do anything cool and techy other then tell the time.

I think all G shocks should have moon, tide graphs since they are outdoor pieces. They make the watch interesting and more useful. All newer models have done away with those cool little features.

I bought mine in Argos as it was cheaper than creation at the time and it still is. 115 in Argos v 175 on Creation. Argos have sold it for 90 occasionally.

I got this one a few months ago on offer.

Best watch I've ever had. Comfortable to wear. Tells time. Looks prety cool. Not too flashy.

I have yet to get into G-shocks but it will eventually happen. I had always told myself that I'd get a French Navy DW9000 but every time one comes up at the right price I bottle it.

I've seen this one recently on the TZ-UK Friday thread and might try one at some stage.

One thing I have to consider is that I don't get on with rubber straps. At all. That means I really should go for one on a metal or composite bracelet or, alternatively, get some NATO adapters.
