Is it better to put expensive valuables in a safety box (I think there's only one in Dublin) in a bank

Or is cheaper just to add the extra 40 grand of stuff on to the house insurance?

I guess it depends on what the items are, how often they would be used in a year etc.

Based on the link above, the prices for the safe deposit box seem to be in and around the same as an all risks insurance policy for your value, which would cover them for any accidental loss, damage or theft inside and outside the home. Shop around a little or go to an insurance broker to get a quote. Some policies you won't have to pay an excess if you claim, but any no claims discount you might have would be affected for future years.

If you have a precious collection of old empty curry jars then a safe would be best.

Buy a safe and put it in your house. Two birds, one stone.

And then bury it for someone to find and start a thread on here about it

    Hahaha hahaha

I like the idea if a safe box. If it was stolen it would be hard to replace, but there is a risk when I remove and use it, which I do like to do every now and then.

So I'm torn between being insured all the time and being at a greater risk of loosing it.

Or putting it in a safe box for €300 a year and then being uninsured when I take it out to enjoy it.

BTW the item in question is a diamond encrusted dong
