Irish Radioplayer app

Thoughts on this app just 'launched' by the IBI?

The blurb says it's 'all' Irish radio stations. It's not, of course, it's only the FM stations run by IBI members.

That's forgivable of course, since the IBI paid for it.

I wonder how much they paid? Any ideas?

It has provided an easy way to switch between all stations, one of the things I noticed is the widely varying audio quality of the streams.

Some are very good, but some are shockingly bad! There's no excuse for that these days, and with the stations spending time and money making it easier for people to listen online, they surely should ensure that their quality is of sufficient standard.

The days of online streaming being a curio not worthy of serious implementation are gone.

Wow! An app packed full of mediocrity.

I think I'll save some memory on my smartphone and not bother with that.

I already have too many good stations from abroad available.

    Worst radio industry ever!
(except maybe when Joe Duffy loses his temper over something on Liveline!)

What does it do that tunein radio doesn't?

And RTE, who are very much not a member of the IBI; both FM and DAB.

Any of the streams I have listened to have been of good quality. It's a handy one stop shop for listening.

I don't get why you are so bitter about it!

Just did a quick search for it on Facebook. No results found! Wouldn't you think that someone should be promoting this by all possible means.

Ah sure isn't a grand soft day for sitting on yer arse while around you are actually doing stuff!

It was heavily plugged this week ..... on the radio.

People who spend their time gawking at photos of other people's children or pressing the 'Like' button on reports of the Nepal earthquake is probably not the target audience.

I think it's great and it's handy for the catchup services on it. Great app.

Noticed today that iRadio seems not to be listed on the app anymore. Any particular reason I wonder?

It was there for a few days at the start but they're no longer on it. Does anyone know why?

I have the Radio Ireland app that does every Irish station, only got it for Newstalk because their app is so crap.
I have noticed four RTE stations that I've never heard of,Gold,2XM,Pulse and Choice . Presumably these things make money and aren't there for the good of somebodies health.
RTE junior is there as well, love to know the number of listeners to these stations.

These RTE digital stations are all available on UPC's digital TV package. There has been much discussion on this forum about RTE Gold - it has some former 2FM presenters on it. Former 2FM Head John Clarke seems to be the main person in charge of running RTE Gold. 2XM is RTE's alternative/indie station. RTE Pulse is RTE's own dance station. It ran temporarily on FM earlier this year in conjunction with a physical health initiative. Most of the deejays would be experienced in the club scene.

Any update on why iRadio bailed from the Irish app?

    Contribution reasons, methinks.
I'd also not expect many of their demographic to use the IBI app when iRadio have their own services.
