Bit unsure what to make of this myself, doesn't look half as good as the anime, and usually live action versions of anime don't work out so great. Looking at you live action Death Note!

I must get around to watching the anime, but from what bits I've seen of it it didn't strike me as something that would work well live action. I can't watch the trailer while I'm at work though dang it, any screen shots knocking around?

Edit: Managed to watch it on reddit there, looks like a standard hollywood blockbuster though some of the close up shots of the titans are pretty cool.

Based on that trailer the titans do look decent, which is a relief because the standard of CGI in a lot of Japanese movies is lacking to say the least (I could point back to the travesty that was the live action Death Note movies. again) but I'm still a bit hesitant about this one, I find live action versions of anime or manga are pretty bad. There's exceptions, but they are few and far between.

It seems pretty cool, and i believe lot of money was put in place for this one, based on the less "cliche" japanese anime design.

    Anybody see part 1?

I thought it was pretty faithful to the anime, it was pretty much what i expected it to be.

Part 2 is out next month.

Is this only available through illegal avenues at the moment?

I must go back and finish the anime off, started it after seeing the trailer for this and am about half way through but I kind of lost interest a bit, it's entertaining enough but I was beginning to find it a bit tiresome.

I got as far as episode 13 and then never went back, like a lot of anime they spent far too much time on pointless filler that it got a little boring.

There's a lot of talk about the film having been absolutely destroyed by Japanese critics. Mark Schilling, one of the few English language critics in Japan I'm aware of, offered more of a middling response than a straight up hostile one. The presence of Kiko Mizuhara means I'll probably watch it anyway.

As for the anime, it started well but I have never seen a show (apart from maybe Heroes before I quit watching in disgust :pac:) with so much filler. There are three-four episode arcs where there's maybe five minutes worth of forward momentum. Which would be fine if the 'filler' was substantial or interesting (as it often was in something like Evangelion), but it very rarely is.

I got annoyed with the constant same titan black and white flash backs which seemed to make up the most of a episode.

All I'll say is I don't think it's being shown in Vue.

    Yep, faithful alright.

They tried really hard to get the effects right but I'm guessing they ran outta money.

Also felt I couldn't see the emotions as well as they do them in Anime though I do concede that animators are able to get a lot more from a lot less effort.

How do they handle the 360 degree combat? I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually, but that always seemed like the biggest difficulty it'd have to me.

Well done. Similar to the Anime... just they didn't have the budget to do it as well as it coulda been I'd say.

Sorry for the bump dudes, but does anyone know when this is out on BluRay here? I see it up for preorder on Amazon.co.uk but there doesn't seem to be a release date associated with it.
